Trump lost the midterms because he did exactly what he was elected to do
NY Post ^ | Nov. 4, 2026, 6:22 p.m. ET | Joel Pollak

Democrats won a massive victory on Tuesday, sweeping to power in both houses of Congress. Critics of President Donald Trump are blaming Republican losses on his failures — and that’s fair.

But what really drove the “blue wave” was Trump’s success.

That’s because Trump followed through on almost every promise he made to voters in 2024.

He secured the border.

You can argue that his Immigration and Border Enforcement (ICE) raids were overzealous. But enforcing laws is never a pleasant sight. He did it anyway.

He confronted Iran.

That meant higher gas prices. It also cost billions of dollars. But stopping a nuclear Iran was a promise Trump made the day he came down the escalator.

He championed AI.

He did that even though voters are afraid of what AI means for their jobs, and blame data centers for rising utility costs. Trump said we had to beat China, regardless.

In every case, Trump did what was in the national interest, even though it had massive political costs.

And that’s why Americans elected Trump in the first place — not just to achieve 3.4% economic growth and 4.2% unemployment.

Voters wanted someone to confront our country’s urgent problems, without holding a finger to the wind to see what polls wanted.

We elected Trump to break things. And he did.

“You can argue that his Immigration and Border Enforcement (ICE) raids were overzealous.”

A lot of “Republicans” wanted MASS deportation.

There is also the amazing drop in crime.

Voters ignore success. (Gas prices, squawk, gas prices).

I have been told since I was child that all elections are pocketbook-driven. “Who will put more money in my pocket.” Sad but true. Nothing has changed under the sun. What is in it for me.

My only real disappointment has been that Hillary and her associates have not been locked up. Other than that, I have been pleased with everything Trump has done.

That’s the president Americans elected in 2024, because only a president like that could do the hardest things and tackle the biggest challenges.

Ronald Reagan was that kind of leader.

Reagan launched economic reforms, for example, that were unpopular in the short term, but paid off in the long term.

[cut]

A few weeks later, his party lost both houses of Congress. He lost eight seats in the Senate alone.

Does that sound familiar?

Great presidents are remembered by their courage, and their willingness to take political risks to do what is right for the country.

Trump was against new wars in the middle east sandbox before he was for them.

this is 100% to do with that and the economic effects of said decision.

Trump was elected to backpeddle what Joe did in terms of inflation and cost of living. Last year was okay, this year has not been okay and in fact reversed all progress last year, because of the Iran mess.

<>Great presidents are remembered by their courage<>

Ditto for Abraham Lincoln in 1862.

Despised by many in the north and by all in the south.

What a brilliant argument. Republicans lose both houses of Congress, and somehow that’s proof of Trump’s magnificent success. Apparently, defeat is the new victory.

He kept his promises, therefore his policies worked. His policies were unpopular, therefore they were courageous. Voters rejected the results, therefore he was right all along.

In other news the Titanic was a triumph of maritime engineering because the captain boldly maintained his course.

Those who believe the midterms weren’t stolen are the same ones who believed Biden got 81 million votes in 2020.

Obama never got above 69 million.

Think about it.

I believe most of the conservatives who voted for Trump in 2024 did so because the alternative was disastrous, not because they were enamored with Trump. More reducing the size and scope of government during the past two years, and less bombastic blather would have gone a long way.

But truthfully, I think the demographic tipping point is now upon us. We have a generation that has come of age not having experienced any serious adversity and utterly without a moral/spiritual compass. They are driven by emotion and social media trends. It’s not going to get better from here.

It was the people who elected him who are the azhos. They couldn’t take Making America Great Again if it costs more for eggs and gas. That screwed up their monthly cruises to be with their Caribbeaners.
