Power bills are so high in Los Angeles they’re now reaching $2,000-$3,000+, even the mainstream media is reporting it

In response a spokesperson for LADWP just came out and said “We keep very close eye with our financial service office to make sure that our rates are as affordable as possible”

You can’t make this up… These people are so damn corrupt

You literally have people getting $3,000 bills. You have businesses complaining about $20,000-$30,000 power bills. You have a woman who has a $2,000 residential water bill, mayor Karen Bass is even saying if you can’t pay current bills because they are so high then don’t pay it all right now

Then you have the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power gaslighting everyone saying they make sure their rates are “affordable”

They literally just increased bills another 7% this last year too on top of all their other fees….

At least they can skip the bill that keeps water in the hydrants. What savings.

The people of Los Angeles asked for this when they elected Demonicrats. Now they can sit back and enjoy what life they have left without electricity and water.

BTW, in case you think the Demonicrats are thankful for your support, the Demonicrats will let you rot where you drop.

It takes a lot of juice to keep 5000 squat ft at 72deg when it’s 94 outside. Tile roof, no trees.

As of October 2026, the average cost of electricity in Los Angeles is 26¢ per kilowatt-hour (kWh), which is about 20% higher than the national average

Step 1 - Don’t let the power company clear brush from near power lines.

Step 2 - let in immigrants to set wildfires.

Step 3 - Send the bill for the fire damage to the power company.

Step 4 - Power company raises bills to homeowners.

“... The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just around the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now you begin to understand me.”

Meanwhile Alabama Power is sending advertisements that they're not increasing their power rates. LOL

Our rates:

From Oct to May it's 13.4851¢ per kWh for the first 750 kWh, plus plus 12.2851¢ per kWh for all over 750 kWh.
For June - Sep it's 13.4851¢ per kWh for the first 1000 kWh, plus 13.7380¢ per kWh for all over 1000 kWh.

IMHO, by the time you add the fuel rate rider per kWh (whatever it cost Alabama Power to fuel their plants) plus the 4% state tax, it comes out to about 16¢ per kWh. Plus a flat rate $15.60 per month regardless of if you pulled power from the grid (calculated as $14.50 base rate plus 50¢ natural disaster fee = $15, plus 4% state tax = $15.60 everyone pays before paying per kWh).

So $15.60 per month plus about 16¢ per kWh ain't bad. But high enough still to look for ways to save power (i.e. seal gaps, add insulation, replace old appliances with more energy efficient ones, maybe add solar)

Employee Ratings: Employees rate LADWP’s compensation and benefits high—around 4.4 out of 5 stars on Glassdoor and Indeed.
Market Comparison: According to benchmarking reports from groups like the California Policy Center, LADWP payroll and total compensation packages are among the highest for utility workers in the nation, often significantly exceeding private-sector equivalents.

California Policy Center
Salary Ranges: While entry-level and general support positions start lower (averaging roughly $62,000 to $80,000 per year), specialized fields, engineering roles, trade positions (such as Journeyman Linemen), and management scale up substantially. Monthly salary schedules on the LADWP Staffing Guide show top-tier roles and technical staff earning well into six figures

On my “Next Door” app, I’m seeing a lot of people complaining about 2-, 3,000 dollar DWP bills. Many swear they have not increased their usage at all.

I’m guessing I have no cause to complain about my last electric bill, which was just under $88.

We had 90-100 degrees thru most of summer and a good part of the Spring and Fall here in NW Florida panhandle. Add in 60%+ humidity.

Our power bill never went over $90. And we kept the AC on 80° all the time.............

Google AI:

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) customers can manage, pay, or seek relief for their utility bills through several official options:

Recent Updates & Relief Measures

• Shutoff Pause:

Mayor Karen Bass requested a temporary pause on residential utility shutoffs for nonpayment through the end of 2026 following high summer heat wave bills.

• Payment Arrangements:

Customers can request extended time to pay balances (up to 48 months for discount programs, up to 24 months for non-discount programs) with no interest or late fees.

• Bill Causes:

Recent high bills (sometimes exceeding $1,000–$3,000+) are driven by continuous air conditioning use during summer heatwaves, higher seasonal Tier 3 electric pricing, sanitation increases, and a 10% city utility tax.
