Remorse and atonement do not exist in the leftist mindset.
Michael Shellenberger, who to his complete and total credit has published damning takedowns of the left’s inherent hypocrisy and corruption in works such as San Fransicko, published an article on Wednesday titled “Progressives Will Be Horrified When They Wake Up To What They’ve Done.”
The subheadline of that piece said, “The sterilization of children, the killing of mentally ill addicts, the decimation of education, and more, will haunt the Left.”
Many conservatives think this way, that our poor, misguided leftist friends, who may or may not have endorsed the aforementioned barbarities with the best of intentions, merely require the right revelation, the right sequence of carefully constructed arguments and cold, hard facts, to abandon the false god of leftism. These conservatives cling to the idea that even hardcore leftists can be reasoned with, that the marketplace of ideas merely has to work its magic to convert these wayward sheep back to the old civility of yore.
The thing is, the left won’t wake up. There will be no mass conversion event when all the trans activists, corrupt bureaucrats, and Antifa thugs suddenly snap out of it and rejoin the more sane ranks of American society.
That’s not how pathological leftism works, and to believe that it does is a dangerous fantasy. Concepts like remorse and atonement do not exist in the leftist mindset...

An excellent essay. The Author is exactly correct. The vast majority of committed Leftists will never admit to their mistakes and the horrors they caused.
They are unable to do so. They would have to reject their entire worldview. They will absolutely refuse to do so.
Every last socialist has a central belief.

Soviets had no remorse killing the Kulaks and seizing their property. NAZIs had no remorse killing Jews and seizing their property. Money and power are the gods of socialism. A million deaths are merely a statistic in service to these gods.
The author is correct. The left are comfortable with the consequences of their preferred policies and beliefs. At best some of them might age out a bit and come straggling back to sanity one by one. They will never renounce their malice however.
Why should they? NO ONE holds them ACCOUNTABLE for any of the havoc they have wrought upon America!
And the general populace is so STUPID (by Socialist Democrat design) that they don’t realize it and/or don’t care!

No, they’ll wonder why it’s taking so long to get this done as it’s all part of Obama’s “transformation” of the country - his word, not mine.

Do not attempt to change the mind of a leftist.
Any information you give them they will only twist to feed their leftist agenda.
For example: guns. If you educate a leftist on guns they will only use the new information to come up with new ways to take guns away.
If you show them information on abortion they will only alter their current stance to dance around what you’ve shown them.
If you educate them on immigration facts they will only twist those facts until they find a way to villify you further. (They started with the southern KKK thing, then they went to the Nazi thing, then they went to the American colonial thing then they went to the crusades, etc etc.)
Like Scott Adams suggested - just divorce yourself from them.
It’s not a reasoning anymore. It’s not a philosophy anymore. It’s derangement now.
The older I get, the more I’m convinced this Country is on a path to split.
No way we can go forever living this 50/50 type split in our society !
I don’t know the answer but this isn’t working. Its seemingly unsolvable to have diametrically opposed people try to have one Government, one viewpoint, one system of morality/laws.
