Only California Winery to Get Fire Payout Belongs to Gov. Newsom
Front Page Magazine ^ | 08/28/2026 | Daniel Greenfield

While California’s Attorney General Rob Bonta and Democrat legislators are working hard to… ban investigation of Somali health care fraud, the corruption is public, obvious and so commonplace that hardly anyone bothers talking about it anymore.

The financial ramifications from the fire, which started at Hundred Acre Winery in Calistoga and destroyed the grape crop of dozens of wineries and substantially burned one vineyard, remain uncertain… more than 30 small winery and vineyard owners impacted by the fire are struggling to recover about $90 million they say they lost.

Only one wine company has received compensation from Hundred Acre and its owner, Jayson Woodbridge. PlumpJack Group, co-founded by Gov. Gavin Newsom

What a coincidence.

PlumpJack did not disclose the sum of the settlement.

Another coincidence. But don’t worry, Newsom had nothing to do with it.

The PlumpJack Group denied “any speculation that Newsom was involved in the settlement process.” Newsom put his ownership interest in PlumpJack into a blind trust when he became governor, the company said, and the wineries operate “without any oversight from him or his office.”

Well I’m sure the people involved had absolutely no idea that PlumpJack is a Newsom family business and that Newsom is running for president, and I’m sure that in a state rife with political appointees, that played no role in any decisions that were made.

“I really felt uncomfortable with that,” Ed Snider, a vineyard owner and retired winemaker, said of the settlement. Snider said he “lost everything” because of the fire, including his vineyard, home and income stream. “It pretty much left me penniless at 65.”

If Ed wanted to get paid, Ed should have been the governor then. That’s how things work in California.

By the way, anyone want to take bets over whether the fire was started by one of the illegal alien beneficiaries of Newsom’s open borders policies?

Juan Luis Gutierrez Marfil, who a Hundred Acre spokesman said was employed as an independent contractor, faces one felony charge of recklessly causing a fire of a structure and forest.

“Independent contractor.”

This is not important. Someone might have stayed at a Trump property somewhere. That is what needs to be looked into.

This author better watch out as well. He might be running afoul of the new California law trying to expose fraud.

Could be completely unrelated (or maybe not) that a lot of CA wineries are tearing up their vines and burning them as they are losing any profits big time. It just costs them too much to have a crop and lose money as opposed to doing nothing, think of what it takes every season produce wine and this part makes sense.

The younger set is switching to beers and the older set is dying off, and/or not drinking as much as previous generations. Obviously grapevines have to be bulldozed to be burned but a crazed individual...just putting this out there.

I am sympathetic to conservative voters in California. But to the rest, who have voted in what has become a super-majority of Democrats. there's zero sympathy.

From Newsom and down the patronage food chain of corruption, they are parasites feeding on a dying host.

Newsom also stole the $100 million raised by the FireAid concert. It went to his foundation where the money was passed to other groups. He has kept several million for himself. He denies he got anything but he did thru a group his wife controls.

ZERO dollars went to the victims of the brush fires.
