It's almost too easy to take a swipe at the hypocrisy of the Democratic Socialists of America.
I'm not kidding about that. I seriously debated with myself about whether it is even worth it to write about how just about every DSA leader turns out to be a nepo-baby cosplaying as a working-class person before going home to their parent-purchased or subsidized luxury home.
f the DSA had remained an obscure political party with little relevance, I wouldn't have written about this phenomenon, but the line between the DSA and the Democratic Party is blurred. The DSA may see itself as distinct, but the Democrats, with few exceptions, want to merge (unofficially) with the DSA as its own partisans flee its leftward lurch.
In other words, who makes up the DSA matters because Democrats are trying to incorporate these people into their coalition, and it turns out the DSA is a better fit with Democrats than one would expect.
I'm not talking about ideological overlap, of which there is obviously quite a bit, but rather the demographic overlap that the DSA is trying to hide. The DSA wants to take over the "working class" slot that used to be filled by union members and appropriate it for themselves, but it turns out that they fit much more comfortably in with the upper-middle-class and upper-class Democrats who now dominate the party.
