Texas Officials Ignored Fury Over Massive Islamic Center Expansion

When concerned McKinney, Texas, residents showed up in droves for a recent town council meeting where city leaders were considering the proposed expansion plan for the Islamic Association of McKinney, Republican Rep. Keith Self (TX-03) – who represents the area in Congress – was right there alongside his fellow outraged citizens.

As RedState previously reported, so many McKinney residents showed up at the August 4 meeting to voice their outrage that they overflowed out into the hallway and the start of the meeting was delayed by 30 minutes so all of the speakers could get registered. They were amped up and united in their opposition to the massive expansion plan.

Rep. Self was the first one to speak when the meeting finally began, saying bluntly, "Child marriage, honor killings, don't tell me it can't happen here." He continued, “The freedom to choose our faith or not does not exist in political Islam. Ask any Muslim what the penalty is for leaving political Islam. It’s death.”

“I have any number of videos of imams in America, modern-day America, preaching sedition, open sedition, against the U.S. Constitution and the laws of this land.”

Despite the public outcry, the council eventually voted 7-0 to approve the plan. Residents are fighting back and have formed a group calling for the ouster of three of the council members along with the town mayor.

The McKinney Recall group is pushing for the removal of Mayor Bill Cox, and councilmembers Ernest Lynch, Justin Beller, and Geré Feltus.

The recall group has built a Facebook page calling for public support of their petition, claiming "This recall is not one issue, it is a pattern. How they spend, what they prioritize, and whether they listen."

In a separate post, they add, "That loss of confidence [in the mayor/council] concerns a broader record of representation, spending, infrastructure, transparency, and responsiveness."

Rep. Self has thrown his full support behind the effort in a video posted to his official X page Saturday.

This is your time. Just like I said at the City Council meeting, that was their time to stand tall.

The council members had their chance and they chose not to listen to the people who elected them, choosing instead to plow ahead with an unpopular plan. Now, McKinney residents are exercising a powerful recourse that's available to them – and, as Self made clear, he intends to stand with them. Will other politicians have the courage to do the same?

Initiate inter-faith dialogs to demonstrate their peaceful intentions. Visits to churches and masjid (mosques)/ or Islamic worship centers, especially by public school field trips. The dualism of the Qur’an is cleverly/ deceitfully (taqiyah) used during such exchanges where only the Mecca/ peaceful verses regarding the kaffur written before the hijrah (i.e., the “Mecca” surwah/ chapters vs. the “Medina” surwah) are quoted.

Qur'ans sold in the West include vernacular translations and interpretations that aim to contextualize or soften the Arabic text of certain verses, often focusing on promoting peace and tolerance. However, the original Arabic text remains unchanged, and interpretations can vary widely among different translators and scholars.

First Lady HRC hosted the 1st White House iftar dinner in 1996 to mark the end of Ramadan. It has since been observed every year at the White House except for 2020 and 2026 (both times on DJT’s watch).

Establish Islamic NGOs (non-government organizations) and NPFs (non-profit foundations). CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) is the best known. Rely upon progressive American groups like the ACLU and SPLC to battle in the courts and the media against Islamaphobes, especially the adoption of hate speech laws against non-muslims. Work with the United Nations High Council for Refugees (UNCHR) to force the U.S. immigration policy to permit more muslim refugees into the U.S.

Penetrate U.S. universities by establishing Middle East/ muslim studies professorships in order to denounce Islamaphobes. Host BDS (Boycott/ Divest/ Sanction seminars on campuses to isolate and demonize Israel regarding the Palestinian refugees right to return to an undivided Israel/ Palestine.

Change U.S. law to permit muslim polygamous (plural marriage families - up to 4 wives) refugees into the U.S. Horror stories coming out of Dearborn, MI (the U.S. city with the highest muslim concentration) suggest that muslim husbands are claiming their other wives as family dependents in order to receive more social entitlement benefits. Change state laws to permit cousins marrying – which result in increased risk of genetic defects in children.

Establish sharia courts in muslim-dominant areas.

Petition states and Congress to observe Islamic holidays as state and federal holidays (Eid al-Fitr (after Ramadan) and Eid al-Adha (after Hajj).

USPS issued its 1st muslim holiday stamp on 9/01/2001 (10 days before 9/11) commemorating 2 of the most important muslim festivals: Eid ul-Fitr, marking the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan and Eid al-Adha, at the end of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca/ Hajj. On 8/12/2011, the USPS issued a new version of the Eid stamp, a "forever" stamp for first-class mail.

Run candidates at all levels of elected office. The Democrat party has become the preferred party since 9-11.

Removal of Christian crosses from public institutions.

End Christian prayers from being used at the opening/ closing of community/ public functions.

Require all public religious events to be inter-faith, i.e., inclusive of different religious leaders and prayers.

Discourage/ cancel music educational activities in public schools.

Cancel Christmas pageants in public schools.

Forbid social study subjects, such as the Crusades, the history of the Jews, the history of Christianity in Europe, and the Nazi murders of 6 million Jews.

Introduce the shahada (“I bear witness that there is no god but God, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of God.") in public school (already part of the Common Core curriculum) to students through art and/or world history classes.

Establish prayer rooms (for the 5 daily prayers/ salat) in businesses and schools.

Establish foot washing (ablution) stations in schools and public facilities, e.g., airports, libraries, etc.

Permit public schools to observe World Hijab Day on 1 FEB (started in 2013).

Encourage menus at public schools discontinue haram foods (e.g., pork) and include halal foods on the menu.

Demand permits for public address loud-speakers to broadcast the adhan called out by a muezzin from mosques 5 times a day, 7 days a week.

Demand permits for public prayer (salat) gatherings in streets, public parks, and in front of institutions, e.g., Fridays (weekly congregational prayer service (obligatory for men) during Ramadan in Times Square, NYC (since 2022). This is intended to show Islamic dominance/ intimidation over other cultures.

Demand sharia be permitted as the public law in muslim majority areas. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) signed a bill on 4/06/2026 allowing Florida to designate certain groups as "domestic terrorist organizations," reinforcing an executive order he issued in DEC 2025 that applied the label to 2 Islamic groups. The law, which takes effect 7/01/2026, bars courts and other adjudicatory bodies from enforcing provisions of foreign or religious law, with particular emphasis on the Islamic code known as Sharia law. CAIR representatives denounced the new law.

Enable sharia compliant no-interest loans.

Forbid human owners from walking their dogs in public.
