CENTCOM Chief Urged Iran Strike Halt

The top U.S. military commander in the Middle East recommended ending the bombing campaign around the Strait of Hormuz after concluding it reached the limits of its effectiveness, a recommendation that helped shape President Donald Trump's decision to pause strikes against Iran, Axios reported Sunday.

Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, advised Pentagon leaders, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the White House last week that two weeks of sustained airstrikes had weakened Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping through the strategic waterway, multiple sources familiar with the discussions said.

His assessment, combined with advice from other senior military officials, influenced Trump's decision Friday to suspend strikes targeting Iranian positions along Iran's southern coast and around the Strait of Hormuz.

The move marked the first pause in nearly two weeks of continuous military operations and reflected growing recognition among military commanders and civilian advisers that additional airstrikes would produce diminishing returns without a broader escalation of the conflict.

If two weeks of bombings “two weeks of sustained airstrikes had weakened Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping through the strategic waterway” then whats the problem, continue doing it

Bull

They could have targeted government buildings with the leaders meeting urging to continue to fight us. We could have targeted the leaders homes when they went home to sleep. We could have targeted the courts that continue to persecute dissenters. We could have obliterated all the army barracks

ect ect

He should have recommended extending the bombing beyond the Strait of Hormuz if they're running out of targets.

They’re saying they’ve been as effective as possible from the air, and if you want to control the strait you’re going to have to put men on the beach.

“The move marked the first pause in nearly two weeks of continuous military operations and reflected growing recognition among military commanders and civilian advisers that additional airstrikes would produce diminishing returns without a broader escalation of the conflict.”

“However, absent a decision to significantly escalate military operations, Cooper argued there was little value in continuing the limited bombing campaign that had been underway.”

It’s Yahoo. I doubt they have inside info and the reasoning doesn’t make sense.

I agree with you on your assessment. I remember Trump and the military said we had plenty of those 500 LB bombs. So, what the hell is the problem with dropping several of those on their villas or cave entrances? I am sick of this bomb, stop, talk, bomb, talk, talk some more, BS back and forth, bomb, stop, repeat. Sick of it. FINISH the DAMNED JOB! Get it over with. Enough already. This is going to crush the midterms if they don’t get this done. People vote with their pocketbooks, not how many bombs we are dropping on the rag heads.

I have (yet another) dumb question. If a B-52 was over its target with a full load of 500 pound bombs, what’s the highest could it be and still deal an effective strike?

Or put differently, is there an altitude where can we use a B-52 to attack with conventional munitions and still be out of range of the enemy’s air-defenses?

Trump denied US has ammunition shortage: 'We have a lot
more than we need'

U.S. President Donald Trump rejected significant escalation
against Iran amid efforts to renew diplomacy to reopen the
Strait of Hormuz and discussions about the impact of
dwindling weapons stockpiles. This was reported by The Wall
Street Journal, citing official American sources involved in
the matter. Official sources indicated that CENTCOM Commander
Admiral Brad Cooper believes the limited inventory of Patriot
missiles and other air defense interceptors can be managed if
increased American strikes are approved by Trump and curb
Iran's ability to launch large quantities of missiles.
However, Trump denied that ammunition depletion poses a
problem: "We have far more ammunition than anyone else in the
world, and far more than we need."

Yes, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any there. We just can’t see them all.

They should leave the reigns loose. If a target of opportunity affords itself, go for it. Don’t limit operations.

I think, even Trump, is realizing that dealing with these knuckle heads rationally and like a business man, is NOT going to work:

https://newrepublic.com/post/213483/donald-trump-expletive-laden-tantrum-iran-war-failures

https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/trump-had-expletive-laden-tantrum-133516251.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAANZH2AgYteXIHH1RQJG187i9ENQCT68K14c9tN7l0bz0xgSfnZrT-2TFMPOOoGvhvETZFFFhB6j8DXmrazZMxZTlBH_Pe6vXYSeaBxOff3IqYiF91BWKO4d0wbZZHpeHuK0OqqaTaqnZky578JYq3cmpxxWg5yMVKcbuhl1FhphW

These people (the leadership) are hard core into an idiology. Maybe not all of them, but enough to keep the system running: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khomeinism

These people do not think like a German or an Italian or us Americans. There was no “enlightenment” philosophic era in that part of the world, and their society is governed by an exteamist form of Shia Islam.

—Do not expect an irrational person to act rationally.

—Do not expect immoral people to be moral.

Iran don’t care and yes, if we want to force them to change course it won’t be by them having an epiphany, but rather us breaking so much of their shit that they can’t afford, move, build, communicate, power, water, or even feed it.

Break enough shit, and you have 90 million people in the dark looking for food and water that won’t be an industrial high tech (nuke, missile, drone) threat that can afford to send thousands of guys to Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen and Nigeria (Quads forces - the part of the IRGC which is their special forces).

But now we’re talking about going really mideveil! It will create lots of ugly scenes, cause a humanitarian crisis. Of course everyone will dogpile him once that happens.

Trump will only be left with that option in the end, IF he wants to stop Iran.

These people won’t be logical, honest, nor do they care about their own people.

They use their own kids as human mine sweepers!!!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plastic_key_to_paradise

They do not care! That’s not empty rhetoric, that’s real. They will burn through half a million lives and keep coming:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran%E2%80%93Iraq_War

Do you really think killing a few of their people (3,600 of their military personnel) and blowing up a few of their military sites is going to change their mind?

This is an enemy you have to literally beat the life out of, you have to keep beating them on the ground, you can’t stop until you notice the eyeballs are looking in different directions, tongue out, poo in pants.

Don’t do that, and Iran will be like some cheap predictable horror movie where the bad guy comes back to life at the end.

It’s an excuse the Administration is putting out to bring down oil prices and improve the bond market.
