The right has reached a verdict on President Trump’s memorandum of understanding with Iran, and the verdict is rage….
They are probably right about Iran. They are wrong about the document and they are very wrong about what it will mean if and when Iran cheats. The deal is so clearly beneficial for Iran that if they do not abide by it, then the world will know they are so deranged that actions taken against them will be completely justifiable….
The trap is baited with the one thing Tehran cannot resist, the appearance of having won, and it springs on the one thing Tehran cannot help but do....
The likelier outcome is the one the structure was built to capture, in which Tehran pockets the appearance of victory, resumes its old habits, and hands Washington a justification for force that no European chancellery and no domestic skeptic could easily dispute.

I agree with this. If we can get through the fall elections with success, then afterwards Iran may hand us the justification to more completely finish the job. Also, as I understand it, this is a performance-based agreement. Iran only benefits if they do as they are pledged to do. If they renege, they get nothing and we get a reason to finish the job. I think Trump has done well.
The problem with this bait and trap philosophy is it only works with a Trump presidency. All bets are off after Trump is gone.

This assumes that the world is reasonable. The world doesn’t care that Iran is deranged. They WANT Iran to obtain nukes and use them against the U.S. and Israel.
I agree. We share the same viewpoint.
Most of us wanted the IRGC completely destroyed. That would have taken tens of thousands of American lives and further depletion of national treasure. If Trump can negate the nuclear threat that is a great accomplishment. Trump’s businesslike negate calmed down North Korean threats and I hope he accomplishes this initial ,also.
my guess is that this is an attempt for the GOP to survive the midterms by bringing down fuel prices, not having a war going, and giving iran plenty of time to cheat and lie, and IF the GOP survives the midterms, President Trump will then finish the job in Iran ...
Sorry but this is ridiculous spin. Trump’s impulsive decision to join Israel and wage this inconclusive war has been a political and economic disaster. Its painfully obvious ( especially to the Iranians) that he wanted a “deal” almost any deal to extricate himself from this mess. Now this troubled man is lashing out against rational critics and Israel. The damage has been done. The demonic Democrats will ride the backlash to power. His Administration and legacy is in tatters. Its the American people and the American nation that will suffer.
Wishful thinking. Face it - Trump made a bad move. Unconditional surrender post was a big mistake as was pausing the attacks. Probably could have finished off the leadership if they hadn’t done that.
Just hope it doesn’t screw up everything else he is trying to accomplish stateside.
It seems to me that the IRGC has three factions and Trump dealt with the most amenable faction, knowing that the other two would never agree to anything.
It’s like he threw a stone in the midst of the three parties in order to get them to blame each other.
100% correct. No one can stick a shovel in the ground to uncover any weapons facility without us seeing it. Trump knows what he is doing.
Horsehockey. Go vote for a ‘Rat next time.
Republicans are looking a total disaster in the Midterms and we do not have any resources left to confront Iran.
Traditionally the party in the white House loses seats in any midterm.
The Republicans right now are on track to lost at least 40 seats in the house and control of the senate.
I think this idea that we're just going to sneak through the elections and then restart hostilities with Iran after we've won them is a fantasy. Iran's non-compliance with the MOU is going to be evident for the world to see in 60 days, which takes us to mid-August. That's less than two months before the election. So what this MOU and it's 60 day window accomplishes, which had to be specifically intended by the Iranians, is to make the election a referendum on war with Iran.
What we plan on doing about that noncompliance is going to be a very hot topic in every congressional race. Candidates are all going to be expected to take a very clear position on whether or not they would support restarting active hostilities with Iran. And based on every poll that's out there, advocating restarting hostilities with Iran will not be a very popular issue with voters.
The election won't open the door on restarting hostilities with Iran - it will slam it shut and throw away the key. That was the Iranian goal when these negotiations began, and it looks like they're going to succeed.
“as I understand it, this is a performance-based agreement. Iran only benefits if they do as they are pledged to do”
I think Vance has said the same thing. To me, the essential element is timing. Don’t give them money until after they’ve earned it.
Iran doesn’t have to “Cheat” on anything, they beat us.
