Brink of War: US Refuses to Take the Bait After Iranian Missile Barrage

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth labels the new "Project Freedom" as a strictly defensive mission to bypass legal war power limits, while mocking Iran’s failed attempt to maintain the Hormuz blockade.

In a special briefing today, top U.S. defense officials addressed the significant escalation of Iranian aggression that occurred overnight. General Caine provided a detailed account of the ceasefire violations, confirming that Iran launched attacks against Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and critical fuel facilities at the Port of Fujairah.

According to General Caine, Iran directly targeted American naval assets during the surge. "Iran launched at least nine missiles toward American ships and carried out additional attacks on neighboring countries." He issued a stern warning to Tehran: "We see this, and I want to make it clear to Iran that if you harm United States forces, you will find yourself facing the full extent of American firepower.

“Is the US now turning the other cheek?”

No, they are trying to show that Iran can’t hurt them. That a response is more trouble than it’s worth.

Also, shooting down missiles fired at them doesn’t violate the War Powers Act.

It’s disgusting.

We will not achieve our objectives by being pussies.

War powers act is unconstitutional anyway.

The founders never envisioned a standing military like we have today. They gave congress the power to raise funds and establish #s in the military. So congress has done that and it’s the President that gets to use it as he sees fit.

If Congress doesn’t like it they need to defund the military or reduce the # of personnel allowed to be on active duty.

And, was this before or after they launched a barrage at two destroyers?

Trump should hold a joint session of congress and ask that they officially declare war on Iran. If they refuse, then it’s on them.

Too bad we weren’t continuing to bomb them for the past several weeks.

Agree. Pisses me off. If we are going to fight, then fight to win, totally!! Sick of the back and forth. Just finish the damned thing. They are EXPERTS at dragging this crap out. Proof? See Obammy and Biden’s dealings with the rag head scum of the earth.

You are correct. But the Trump administration still has to abide by the law until the law is either repealed legislatively or declared unconstitutional.

This appears to me to be a workaround.

I’m taking no position here. Just saying what it appears to be.

That would be the worst thing in the world...Congress doesn’t care...they just blame the President or the other side of the Aisle.

No not really. He can challenge it in court. And keep in mind this law has never been enforced. And every other President used military without a declaration of war.

This military campaign is now being dictated by political and economic considerations, first and foremost.

A sizable number of Republicans in Congress have told Trump that he’s not going to get the $200 billion his administration was suggesting as an appropriation to fund the stupid war.

If Trump did something like that, he’d be lucky to get 40 votes in the House and 15 in the Senate to support him.

Trump doesn’t have to abide by that law if he doesn’t want to. There’s no enforcement mechanism written into the WPA.

Good question,Dm.

This guy thinks: Before.

A reporter asked, what will it take for Iran to be determined to have violated the ceasefire.

The answer was: It’s up to President Trump and no one else, to make that decision. So, short of a massive barrage that does real damage to our assets and hurts or kills our people, the decision may end up being, not a military one, but a political one.

IMO we are getting the remaining boats out of the gulf.

If there is no “ceasefire” the boats will stop because their insurance won’t cover.

We just proved the mullahs can’t stop us. Therefore boats can exit safely. Meanwhile blockade continues crushing their economy.

“Since the beginning of 2025, 21 out of 38 major Russian facilities that process crude oil into fuels such as gasoline and diesel have been hit.”

“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly stressed that weakening Russia’s oil sector is a key tool for forcing Moscow to negotiate. ‘The most effective sanctions are those that work the fastest – fires at Russia’s refineries, terminals, and fuel depots.’”
