We would be the poorest state in the entire union.
Mississippi which is portrayed at swamp dwelling hillbillies in majority of international media is above us.
I don’t think people grasp how far we’ve fallen in real terms when it comes to GDP per capita.
We’ve seen no growth for almost an entire generations.
We’ve seen our productivity decrease and our tax increases.
The average person on the UK, on £50,000 is less well off than your average Mississippi swamp dweller.

In my opinion, this really shows the genius of Trump.
For decades and decades — really since the end of WWII — the US has tried to just be a “member of the global community”. We joined the UN and we joined NATO. We paid more money than anyone else, but we were just one member, and the other countries outnumbered us and we often did not get our way.
We were always paying. Always sending troops. Always supplying weapons. Always patrolling the sealanes. And we never got respect. We were always blamed for everything. We “wasted resources”, we “polluted”, we “caused climate change”. We were the Bad Guys and the rest of the world enjoyed the enlightened world of Socialism.
Well, Trump seems to be the first president (since Reagan anyway) who understands American wealth and power. Trump is turning off the funds and the Socialists are now “running out of other peoples money”. And we are solving the 47-year-old problem of Iran by actually throwing our weight around and not really caring what the rest of the world thinks about that.
The world is made up of pygmies like the UK. The USA is a giant. Trump is getting stuff done The post-WWII era is over. Trump is building actual new world order. It’s glorious.
It’s shocking and even rather sad, that this British writer would even be toying with the notion of his country becoming American’s 51st State, being finally swallowed up and absorbed by one of it’s former colonies.
That would be a cultural earthquake far more rigorous and appalling than what the Canadians went through last year.

I visited England a few years ago and I had a great time, if the UK became an American state they’d have to get rid of the Muslims and Hindus first though

The UK has done this to themselves and the EU is doing it to all of Europe. They are in a nosedive and most don’t even see it. The EU apologists are sure to chime in, but I ask you to also chime in (non muslims) in 10 years and document your gains.

I suppose England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland could become 4 states, but then what to do with the Isle of Man or with the Channel Islands? Maybe gift the Channel Islands to California since they have experience with channel islands.

In fairness, if you equate a bog with a swamp (which I think is not unreasonable to do), Scotland had plenty of hills and swamps all mixed together.

There is no shortage of videos of “Brits In America’’(they treat us like we're some giant theme park), Brits try American BBQ for the first time!. They're all over the tv. I'm hearing British announcers hawking tooth paste, cars and everything else there is to hawk here. There's video of Brits begging our president to ''save us Trump!''. I don't ever recall a time in America, other then when the Beatles showed up here that there has been this British presence in America. For most of these expats they say they've been bought up to believe America is the worst place on Earth and Americans are horrible, racist, gun toting Bible thumping toothless rubes and when they get here they find what many of them call a ''paradise''. I couldn't be happier seeing the Limeys in this state. And the Canuks too.
And it’s also very insulting.
