The friction between the Vatican and the White House reached a boil over point with the depiction of President Trump comforting an individual in a meme.
It was suggestive of President Trump acting as Jesus.
Was this a wise move by President Trump? Probably not. It probably should have been scrapped by a cooler head along the chain, but it wasn’t.
Nevertheless, however tasteless and indicative of a slip in judgement, it is not the end of the world.
A more carefully constructed team of “meme advisors” would have counseled against it.
President Trump is giving us what we voted for. We voted for a Warton trained street fighter in a $25,000 suit.
Running the most important country in history while prosecuting a war and having the entire Democrat Party – save for a very few- working to constantly undermine his efforts is a job that requires hitting home runs every time at bat.
But that can’t and won’t happen. Mistakes will be made and it is for each of us to weigh the magnitude and price of this mistake.
I am of a mind to let it go.
Pope Leo has a different job. He was given his job by God. He is a direct line successor to the first Pope Saint Peter. He is the 266th successor to Pope Peter.
Peter, you will recall, denied Jesus three times during His passion. When God appointed Peter, He knew this would happen, but He selected Peter anyway. The Church survived and thrived to grow to about 1.35 billion Catholics worldwide today.
As the Vicar of Christ Pope Leo has the obligation to speak about peace and alternatives to war. As an American citizen his opinion and right to express his views are a constitutionally protected right he shares with all other Americans.
That said, Pope Leo might have made a stronger case for his views with a better selection of words.
The job of the Pope as the Bishop of Rome is to teach the Gospel and uphold Catholic Church doctrines.
To make sure that certain doctrines are unconditionally accepted by all Catholics, God in the person of the Holy Spirit gave us Catholics the doctrine of Papal Infallibility. This means when a Pope speaks about a narrow set of doctrines it is an unbreakable rule that adherent Catholics must accept and believe what he says or no longer be part of the Catholic Church.
There are only a few of these must believe doctrines and they are identified as matters of “Faith and Morals.”
In their teaching ministry Popes say things nearly every day that are outside of the bounds of “Faith and Morals.”
This frees Catholics to either believe and accept what the Pope has said or disagree without penalty.
What Pope Leo has said about the ongoing war in Iran as he endeavors to teach the value of peace, does not fall under the law of Faith and Morals.
Catholics are free to accept and support what he is teaching on this issue or not accept what Pope Leo says at their own discretion.
Jesus’ reminder to, “Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and render unto God what is God’s” comes to mind here.
Adherent Mass attending Catholics support Republican conservative positions by a wide margin. Other Catholics are less supportive of Republican conservative ideas.
Nevertheless, each side is free to either support President Trump or support Pope Leo in this time of friction between them.
Moreover, this situation does not require us to even take a position. And it certainly does not mean that supporting one man is a declaration of abandonment of the other.
Each man has a job to do. This is not an either-or issue. As Catholics we can continue to love and support the leader of our Church and the leader of our country at the same time.

Papal infallibly says the pope is always right.
Jesus chose Peter. Marxist Jesuit men chose Leo.
Trump has been pranking people for most of his life. It’s what caused his father to send him to NY Military Academy for high school.
It should be an either/or for Leo. Either stay out of American politics OR start having all of your churches paying taxes. Has Leo attacked Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq or Somalia yet? We don’t need him saying that America should award every maggot on the planet with “a better life” and make them wards of the U.S. taxpayers. Americans built an America themselves with blood, sweat and tears. The maggot migrants need to cowboy up and make their own America.
Remember.
The Poop is a Communist.
President Trump is a MAster Troller.
What the Catholic Church did?......assisted a demographic invasion of America by illegals, Dya think that Trump would not troll Muslim loving , socialist boys club Papita?
I say, Presidemt Trump ...lay it on.
IN the name of the Blather, bun and the holy boast.
Meet the new boss.
Same as the old boss.
Islamic countries are much less secular than the West. All the rituals and requirements make their citizens at least look like they are believers or life for them will be awful and short. I think that Trump-Jesus meme was made for Mozlems to see. The blowback from American citizens obviously made him take it down.
Nobody but commies care about what a commie pope says.
Scratch the surface on the anti-Catholic attacks follow freely.
"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!"
-Isaiah 5:20
Trump’s post was over the top, and counter-productive. But Pope Leo started this little dust-up.
Like every other leader, Leo needs to stay in his lane. Run the Church as best you can, Leo. Forcefully speak out against the violent persecution of Christians - and there’s plenty of that going on in the world.
But try to stay out of politics. We don’t need your opinion on every last thing.
Why stop there? The Devil’s handpicked “pope.”
Can you say usurper?
I thought so too. But the lavender mafia is getting money from somewhere. Soros? Schwab? Red China for sure.
Who told you that?
Given the need to choose, I’ll ALWAYS choose Trump.
There’s simply nobody else out there, and that’s a problem.
Either the Pope is a demon or Satan himself! The entire Roman Catholic Church is just as demonic as Islam! I see little difference!
I worship the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Personally, I've never encountered any islamic anything in twelve years of Catholic school, nor at Catholic College, nor at Mass in all my years.
Maybe check your eyes. Jeremiah 5:21, Mark 8: 11-21, Isaiah 6:9, Matthew 13:13
