“Extremely Intoxicated” Foreign Big Rig Driver Arrested in Florida

A foreign-born big rig driver who speaks very limited English was charged with DUI in Florida this week, according to reports.

The harrowing bust unfolded at around 1 p.m. on Tuesday in Sumter County.

Concerned motorists reported an 18-wheeler swerving dangerously on I-75 and a responding Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper observed the vehicle nearly collide with an SUV, forcing that driver to take defensive action, an arrest report reviewed by Villages News states.

The semi driver, identified as 36-year-old Numon Azimov, exhibited “bloodshot, watery eyes” and smelled of alcohol, FHP says.

During the traffic stop, Azimov attempted to walk to the back of his trailer and then “lay face-down on a pallet of boxes,” the report states.

Azimov reportedly told troopers he had been drinking BuzzBallz, and three open containers were located in the cab of the truck, including one in the cupholder with a straw in it.

Azimov provided a breath sample that registered approximately 0.27 BAC — nearly seven times the legal limit for commercial drivers.

After posting $1,000 bond, the Uzbekistani was released from the Sumter County Detention Center.

$1,000 bond and released?!!! The only way he should have been released was if it was into the custody of ICE.

The semi driver, identified as 36-year-old Numon Azimov,

Maybe he's one of Issac Azimov's kids?

During the traffic stop, Azimov attempted to walk to the back of his trailer and then “lay face-down on a pallet of boxes,” the report states. He was tired.

Technically possible as Azimov died in 1992 which would have been 34 years ago.

More likely a recent import.

I would have applauded release feet first in a pine box. He will be back on the road, drunk, and will kill someone. He doesn’t care.

I’ve seen handlers bring in 20 Mexicans at a time here in Colorado and walk right to the front of the line. I got up in their face about that because the state employees wouldn’t say anything. That was years ago, I don’t know what they do now.

I hope somebody reported this guy to ICE. He’s an alcoholic and will do it again and again.

Gotta start holding the trucking companies responsible. A drunk foreigner presupposes the company did not vet the drivers. That might not be the case but the law must start presupposing it is and fine the company for driver’s infractions.

Nah. Asimov’s kids would have robot drivers and not be foreigners.

“The only way he should have been released was if it was into the custody of ICE.”

It is Florida. They don’t release illegals.

When a little person (cf: Blade Runner) gets a DUI, the car is normally impounded. Did the truck get impounded? The cargo?

It might be his own private trucking company. That’s what it was with an illegal who was recklessly driving his semi, ran a red light and killed a man a month or so ago where I am.

When he was sued, for previous crimes, he filed for bankruptcy and opened up a new outfit. Same address, just a new LLC.

I’m not sure what’s happened to him now that he killed a man. I hope he’s still in jail, but I don’t know.
