Do you trust President Trump to protect our country, or not?
Preachers still talk a lot.
The most recent intel was that Iran had enough material for 11 nukes and was weeks away from operationalizing them. They basically said so openly.
So the calculation was that the upfront risk and effort was worth it at this point in order to prevent Iran from becoming untouchable.
Note that the phrase ‘imminent risk’ is not correct to describe the situation. The issue wasn’t that Iran was going to fire on us next week - it was that they were going to reach a threshold that would allow them to operate with impunity and pose unlimited future risk (actual, as demonstrated by past attacks of various kinds).
So at this point it was a small window when they could be quashed before that window would be lost.
