In 1978, Paddy Chayefsky took to the stage at the Oscars and condemned the use of the ceremony as a political platform. What made him so mad? Vanessa Redgrave, wherein she called out the “Zionist hoodlums” who were trying to have her documentary The Palestinian silenced and destroyed...
The brilliant screenwriter of Network did not hold back...
48 million people watched that episode. This year, the Oscars will be lucky to get 20 million. What might help is that a popular movie is in play: Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, which made waves for breaking the record for nominations (16) and for having two of the stars, Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo, called the N-Word at the BAFTAs by a poor man who suffered from Tourette's Syndrome.
No writer today could ever come up with satire that good. The very people who try their hardest not to offend end up offending, and yet, it’s no one’s fault. Either way, it put Sinners in the spotlight, leading to a surprise win at the SAG Awards. Now, an Oscar race that seemed locked and loaded feels surprising.
Nothing gets better clicks and views than hating on the Oscars. It’s an annual ritual by now, as the wealthy and privileged parade about in their finery, an entire ecosystem is dedicated to dunking on them. It seems to be almost a sadistic pleasure by now. The more embarrassing the Oscars are, the better to dig in with a knife and fork.

Since the festivities are tonight....
I heard Rob Reiner won’t be in attendance this year due to family issues.
This is probably the only thread about this crap that I will click.
Here is my comment for any and all Hollyweird
D.I.L.L.I.G.A.F.
the movie Sinners is popular? NEver heard of it.
It’s 100% black, from screen play...director...actors...everybody.
That’s why it’s a shoe-in.
I do some due diligence before watching movies. I therefore like most of the movies that I see ... the exceptions being some that I watch in a deliberate exercise in opposition research, or sometimes just to see what all the fuss is about.
That’s an outgrowth of my still fairly recent rule that I won’t dump on a film unless I’ve actually seen it. Because the graffiti level rants one sees online are not reliable guides.
Of this year’s Best Pictures nominees, I’ve seen Hamnet and Sentimental Value, both of which are very good and brilliantly acted. If you like flying spandex, you won’t like them. But if you respect good acting, they are worth seeing.
I also saw Bugonia and Sinners, which were watchable and reasonably entertaining, but which don’t strike me as Best Picture level films.
I’ve not seen Train Dreams. I’ve read good things about it, and several freepers have said they liked it, so this isn’t just coming from El Sphinxo here with my notorious affection for indie character dramas.
I’m indifferent to the rest, but not having seen them, I won’t vent.
LOL! We’re not watching the parade of leftist propagandists in LA……haven’t for years. It’s all strutting, narcissistic commie bullshiite.
After reading this thread, I turned on the Oscars for about 5 minutes, and was greeted with leftist political blather, and DEI on steroids.
Let’s just say I’m a bit less than shocked.
He's got a stabbing headache or something
The last time I watched the Oscars was in 2008, and only at the urging of our then college-aged daughter, because a movie she enjoyed, “Once” was up for “Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song”. We really enjoyed the movie and the song, but otherwise, the Oscars mean nothing to me. It’s all too political anymore. Perhaps it was always that way.
The last great Best Picture winner was “The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King”.
I see what you did there.
Oh, you’re bad!
:^)
The retarded elitist ingrates show’s tonight?
I’m watching the baseball.
LOL.
Well said.
Sean Penn won but didn’t show up. Streisand sang but audio of her whole bit was terrible. Sinners isn’t winning a lot of awards like everyone thought so old white men getting blamed
Zendaya looked fabulous. She rarely misses. Probably due to stylist law roach who said she is now married to dweeby looking guy tom holland
Now the only winning movies are those about demoncrat talking points.
Hollywood creeps are losing billions because of it.
