It’s safe to say should Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) run for president in 2028 he will not exactly be welcomed with open arms by the Trump Administration.
According to recordings obtained by Axios, which were leaked to the outlet by a GOP source, Cruz spoke with donors for roughly 10 minutes and delivered some pointed criticisms of both President Trump and Vice-President JD Vance. the recordings were originally made in the first six months of 2025.
Axios reveals that Cruz essentially called Vance a pawn of former Fox News host Tucker Carlson in the recording. Cruz, of course, has a long-running feud with Carlson, who he has ripped as an anti-Semite and un-American.
“Tucker created JD. JD is Tucker’s protégé, and they are one and the same,” Cruz told donors.
As for Trump, Cruz slammed the tariffs the president has imposed across the world. The Texas Senator told donors that the imposition of these tariffs would lead to Republicans losing control of Congress and Trump’s impeachment.
When he attempted to call out Trump over the phone, the President grew furious and cursed him out.
From Axios:
“Trump was in a bad mood,” Cruz tells the donors. “I’ve been in conversations where he was very happy. This was not one of them.”
Cruz says he told Trump: “Mr. President, if we get to November of [2026] and people’s 401(k)s are down 30% and prices are up 10–20% at the supermarket, we’re going to go into Election Day, face a bloodbath.”
“You’re going to lose the House, you’re going to lose the Senate, you’re going to spend the next two years being impeached every single week.”
Trump’s response, according to Cruz: “F**k you, Ted!”
As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, Cruz is poised to run for president in 2028. Such a decision would almost certainly put him in direct competition with Vice-President Vance.
According to Axios, the reason is personal. The outlet has alleged that Cruz would run on a neoconservative foreign policy and anti-Tucker Carlson platform, in contrast to Vance’s more noninterventionist approach.
Should Cruz actually embark on a presidential run, it will end no better than his last one.
Running anti-MAGA, Never-Trump type campaigns simply do not work in GOP primaries.

TED CRUZ’S quest for President has come and gone.

OK...
Cruz sleeps with the enemy, Goldman-Sucks. Smart guy with no sense.
No sale for a very long time to me.
How TF does THIS get characterized as anti-MAGA and trashing Trump??? Anti-Vance, maybe. Oh, wait: Conservative Treehouse. Never mind, no wonder.
Ted gives me the creeps
This was a year ago...
I would trust anything that comes from Axios, that is Eric Holder’s mouthpiece.
Trump deserves criticism, but for the love of G-d, Cruz is not the answer.
The one does not follow the other. One could just as easily say that JD used Tucker but had his own agenda. Moreover, Tucker's product has gone off the rails in recent years, to which (unless I'm mistaken) JD has taken exception. Cruz is definitely out of line here in distorting that history for his own benefit in competition with JD.
Hey Ted (spit), J.D.Vance learned more in the Corp than anything you or Tucker (spit again) did in your pampered, white tablecloth silver spoon lives.
At what point does pointed criticism become trashing?
Trump’s first chief economic advisor and his first Secretary of the Treasury, and his pick to run the Securities and Exchange Commission were from Goldman Sacks. That’s pretty much the core of his first economic team... so it’s a little wierd to be attacking a Republican for receiving donations from Goldman Sacks.
Something about Cruz has rubbed me the wrong way ever since the day he declared his run at Liberty University.
I grew to like him a little better, but haven’t trusted him to care more about the Nation than about himself.
Cruz may be able to finagle another victory in Texas using his influence in Texas GOP and running against another woke Democrat neo-marxist
But there is NO WAY he will be able to run for President as a “conservative.”
I supported Ted Cruz I the beginning. Now that I’ve seen Trump in action I like him even better than Reagan. Up until Trump its always been a march towards socialism. Fast under the RATs , slow under the Rino’s. Trump has actually reversed the direction in many ways .
That is because he is part of the Deep State.
Me too.
Okay. Sure. Anything is possible. But I don't really see evidence that we are moving in this direction.
Bannon was a VP at Goldman. IOW, working at GS doesn't make a person a globalist. If you'd read Heidi Cruz writings instead of repeating unsupported innuendo you'd know that. I'm not defending Ted Cruz here; I just think we should be above such guilt-by-association without better evidence of it.
