People don't like to discuss progressivism. They don't like to discuss the progressive party. It doesn't really make any sense to me, these are some of the most important things we ought to be discussing.
Here is the party platform of the Progressive Party. What do you see?
One of the very first declarations is for the direct election of senators - essentially the 17th amendment. Is this left wing or right wing?
It calls for nationalizing issues out of the hands of the states. Is this left wing or right wing?
There's social justice and industrial justice. Is this left wing or right wing?
The creation of a department of labor.
The creation of a National Health Service.
A progressive income tax.
Distribution of immigrants all across the countryside, not just concentrated in the cities.
Are these things left wing or right wing?
You should read the entire platform. There are items I did not address. And if you do not want to read the party platform? You can listen to a recorded version of the entire Progressive Party platform, here.

Left-wing / Right-wing are usually flawed terms. Not helpful.
The Progressives were shifting things away from what the Founders had originally wanted. The Progressives were not Conservatives.
Sounds Left-wing to me. Yesterday’s progressivism is today’s conservatism.
Seventeenth Amendment
The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each State shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the State legislatures.
When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate,** the executive authority of such State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies:** Provided, That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct.
This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution.
The Party tried to have its cake and eat it too on the subject of race.

It was not left or right—it was just word salad.
Though the labels were somewhat different, in both the US and Europe, the socialist split happened before the turn of the 20th Century. The most accurate term for it was “nationalism” vs. “internationalism”. Those who didn’t join either side were the conservatives of the middle, who since then have been disdained by both the right and the left.
In Europe, the nationalist right became “fascists” or Nazis, while the internationalist left became “communists”.
In the US, the nationalist right embraced Teddy Roosevelt, while the internationalist left embraced Woodrow Wilson. Both of whom called themselves “progressives”.
“In Europe, the nationalist right became “fascists” or Nazis, while the internationalist left became “communists”.”
No, the nationalist LEFT became the fascists, while the international Left became the Communists.
Correct. And the leftists here supported both until Hitler invaded the USSR.
I believe TR was a progressive republican

I'll place Trump in between the "Uniparty" and the Constitution
TR was a “nationalist” not because he was pro-American but because he wanted to nationalize state powers.
Or, RINO's, if you prefer that term.
