A US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) report found more that more than $5 billion in taxpayer funds went to rental assistance recipients during the final year of the Biden administration — including to 30,000 deceased tenants and thousands of foreigners who illegally entered the country.
Former President Biden called these payments "a noble effort. In exchange for the money, every recipient allowed us to fill out and cast their 2024 election ballots. Sadly Trump still won the election and is now trying to disenfranchise these voters before we can cast their ballots in the 2026 Congressional elections."
A sympathetic Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer shared Biden's frustration, saying "14 states have outlawed the voter IDs that less progressive states require be shown before a person is given a ballot. Even though the no ID states include four of the biggest states: California, New York, Illinois, and Pennsylvania as well as ten others adding up to a total of 195 electoral votes, as we all saw Trump still won the 2024 presidential election. Twelve states with Democratic governors still require voter IDs. We need to work on getting these ID requirements repealed."
"There are also more than 10 million undocumented immigrants who are explicitly banned from voting," Schumer added. "A lot of them are illegally registered to vote and have cast ballots for us. But many others are deterred by fear that it will lead to them being deported. We're getting some help from judges who are blocking the deportation of a lot of these 'wanna be Americans.' The only way we're going to have a great future in America is if we welcome and embrace all immigrants. Our ultimate goal is to get a path to citizenship for all of them. We need to enact a rapid naturalization process and will do so if Democrats can take back the majority in Congress next November. "
