Ford cancels electric F-150

Just four years after it was launched, the Ford Motor Company has pulled the plug on its electric F-150 Lightning truck. The company instead will reportedly be focusing on hybrid vehicles and a future lineup of smaller and more affordable electric vehicles.

In a call with reporters on Monday, Andrew Frick, the president of Ford Blue and Ford Model E, the company's commercial and electric divisions, said, "The American consumer is speaking clearly and they want the benefits of electrification like instant torque and mobile power. But they also demand affordability … rather than spending billions more on large EVs that now have no path to profitability, we are allocating that money into higher-returning areas," per NPR.

It's not just the initial cost of the vehicle. Those who need a pick-up truck to make a living do not have the time to waste waiting for the pick-up to charge. Time is money and a contractor or tradesman would be losing a lot of money on down-time if depending on a EV truck.

I’ll stick with the baby V-6 with the turbos. Good mileage. Power when you need it. I wouldn’t want to pull a fifth wheel with it.

“Ford to record $19.5 billion in special charges related to EV pullback”

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/12/15/ford-ev-pullback.html

“Ford expects to record about $19.5 billion in special items, mostly during the fourth quarter, the automaker said Monday.

The charges are related to a restructuring of its business priorities and a pullback in its all-electric vehicle investments.”

I feel bad for anyone stupid enough to have bought one. Nobody will take it in on a trade-in. Nobody will steal it.

Probably best to let it die on the train tracks and file an insurance claim.

Hmm. Let me guess. No more pressure from the federal government to build it and the marketing department determined no one wanted one?

Without taxpayer subsidies, I guess Ford was having a hard time making any money on the trucks.

.....a restructuring of its business priorities and a pullback in its all-electric vehicle investments.

Ah, yes "investments"

The democRAT code word for taxpayer's dollars.

There was never a market for this. The government provided truckloads of taxpayer's dollars, and the car companies still could not make profit.

There is no market for $100,000 golf carts? Who would have guessed?

What stupid asses authorized these expenditures in the first place? How much is the American taxpayer on the hook for this fiasco?

The dozen or so MBAs who counted on looking cool driving one to the hipster juice bar after work are sad.

A big chunk of that is construction of a HUGE vehicle battery plant in Glendale, KY.

I’m curious to see how / if it will be repurposed. It’s quite a facility, I’ve watched it go up for the last 2-3 years when driving to visit family.

That facility is serious business. Lots of money spent constructing it.

Worked with Ford in the late 90’s. They refused to listen to a hybrid source and insisted all electric everything. We designed electric wheel motors, power steering and shocks.
They pretty much stole our tech. Feck um.
