Back when cartoons were funny, and not perversion grooming vehicles for children...

Although Rocky & Bullwinkle were quite political! :-)

Those were hilarious!
Rocky and Bullwinkel, of course, and the rarer Aesop’s Fables...Didn’t care so much for Peabody and Sherman...

Clean, knifing humor...those were the days...

When I sing an oldie at karaoke, I use Peabody’s line as an introduction ...

“Sherman, set the wayback machine for the year 19__”

There was the Colonel with his British accent, telling the stories of all his adventures. They were always ridiculously exaggerated. What was his name? I forget.

In 1963, I was 17 and living on my own in Hollywood (a long story). I had a girlfriend, Madelyn and she and I were wandering around late at night and we ran into a huge concrete statue of Bullwinkle holding Rocky in the palm of his hand. We saw lights on in a small building behind the statue and it was the Jay Ward Studio and people were still working there. We went up to the door and they let us in. In the lobby they had a huge Wurlitzer mechanical band machine and because we showed interest, they played the thing and it was loud and magnificent!

Since we were obviously fans of their work, they screened some of the new cartoons, including some new ones they were trying out on us - "Florence of Arcadia" and some commercials they were doing for Cap'n Crunch cereal. I don't know how many hours we were there but the guys running that place were a lot of fun and it's one my cherished memories.
