The article is true, but not the full story. In all of history there has been a conflict between immediate gratification and delayed gratification. Pre-contraception delayed gratification was always preferred by society and most people in society.
When the pill came along immediate gratification surpassed delayed gratification, not just in sex, but in making lifetime commitments to children, jobs, politics, most everything.
