Dem Brushes Off Hateful Words [semi-satire]
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 23 November 2025 | John Semmens

State Rep. Aftyn Behn (D-Nashville) says "the recent discovery of a podcast from 2020 where I said 'I hate the city, I hate the bachelorettes, I hate the pedal taverns, I hate country music, I hate all of the things that make Nashville. I hate it.' Won't stop me from winning this election."

"This election" is a special election to fill the congressional seat vacated by former Rep. Mark Green (R) earlier this year. Her opponent for the seat Matt Van Epps suggested that "this district cannot be well-represented by a person who hates everything about it."

Behn disagreed, saying "hatred is the first step toward improvement. I recognize what's wrong with this city, this state, and this country. My opponent does not. The recent election sweep by Democrats in California, New Jersey, and Virginia show that voters are turning to Democrats across the nation to fix the problems caused by Republican rule. The majority of voters want more government subsidies for medical care. They want an end to Trump's persecution of undocumented immigrants. They want higher taxes on the rich. They'll never get these things from Republicans. All we need to do is get our message out."

"We've already knocked on 40,000 doors and will knock on millions more before election day," she vowed. "This is the same type of 'ground game' strategy that allowed democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani to win a mandate in New York City. We've also got endorsements from former Vice-President Kamala Harris and Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Tex). All my opponent has is Trump and his 'make America great again' scheme of lower taxes, fewer regulations, and more jobs. Voters know that a job is a hard way to make a living and that getting more free stuff is a lot easier. This is why Democrats will take back the majority in Congress next year and the presidency in 2028."

The surname Behn, includes "Beh" meaning "son of". Here it appears to refer to "daughter of" as in "daughter of carpetbaggers".

The South has seen them before.

She’s just another reason to repeal the 19th.
