From the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, this depressing statistic: 34% of Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 have a favorable opinion of communism:
To say you like communism, you have to be a moron. And you have to know absolutely nothing about history. And you must be getting your information from ill-intentioned, malicious sources. What sources might those be? The public schools. What other explanation is there for young people developing a fondness for communism?
I think we have reached the point where it is a serious question whether, on balance, our public schools do more harm than good. Sure, our kids need to learn how to read and write, multiply and divide. But the schools do a horrible job of teaching them those things. Their focus is on propaganda, not education. With no public schools, probably the same number of kids would learn basic skills from their parents or in private schools, for which demand would rise. But most students would be spared the propaganda component of contemporary public “education.”
Here is another data point: who elected Zohran Mamdani Mayor of New York? The college educated. From the same source:
Exit polls show that Mandani won 78% of voters under age 30 and 57% of college graduates, but just 26% of the white non-college vote.
There is growing evidence that going to college tends to make people dumber, not smarter. We need a wholesale re-evaluation and overhaul of everything we are doing to educate our children. In the meantime, you should homeschool your kids if you can, and don’t pay for them to go to college unless they need a specific course of study, like engineering or pre-med.

Palantir CEO Alex Karp graduated from Haverford College (Bachelor's in Philosophy), Stanford Law (JD), and Goethe University in Frankfurt (PHD in neoclassical social theory).
Yes.
(Yes)^1,000,000.
“Time to Close the Public Schools?”
####################
What it’s time for is to end their monopoly on free education.
Vouchers, vouchers, vouchers. Make currently “public” schools compete with the private schools for education. Vouchers would have to be used at currently “public” schools as well.
“Back in My Day”, high schools used to have Career Day, where you met adults involved in various professions.
For the kids paying attention, that was a very helpful way to pass a few hours.
I don’t know if Career Day is still being done in todays’ schools.
Absolutely.
I can see two possible classes of government schools:
1) Good, safe schools for children with special needs. They deserve care and their school and the staff at the school should all be 100% focused on decent care for children with disabilities. A caring society should spend some taxpayer money to provide this sort of care.
2) Prison for kids. If they are troublemakers and clearly headed for bad futures, lock them up in some government institution. If the kid is 8 or something he can’t go to a SuperMax prison, but something similar although more appropriate for his age should be provided by the government.
All the rest of society can go to private or parochial schools, or else enjoy simple home schooling.
It’s way past time. Too many innocent students being murdered by their fellow sick in the head students.
Then cover them with a Chernobyl concrete sarcophagus, every last one.
And 98% of those who love communism are teachers.
Defund public education. We have to burn the village to save it.
We have to get the government out of education. It is not the governments business to educate our kids. Government education is ripe for indoctrinating our children to believe whatever the government wants them to believe. I think public schools should be funded by taxpaying citizens, but their agenda must be approved by the taxpayers, not the schoolboard or the teachers unions.
Government schools can be saved if we can keep the indoctrinating communist democrats out of it. But this will never happen in our life times. So the short answer is yes, get rid of them.
Hell NO! Wrong question.
You still need a babysitting service for the unteachable students and disinterested parent.
The correct question is: Should Charter Schools receive public funding for facilities and equipment?
Outlaw the unions.
Issue vouchers.
I have a PHD, Public HighSchool Diploma.
'Any public school educator found to be espousing communism to the students in their classrooms will be summarily arrested and charged with sedition.'
Problem solved.
Close public schools?
Oh heck yeah!
And drop my property tax about 80%.
Without a doubt.
How are we going to close government schools when we can’t even get the Department of Education abolished?
