It’s Obvious Why Harris Lost in 2024. But Can Democrats Accept It?

However, to move to the center is, by definition, to move in the direction of the other party, toward the hated enemy and away from your most passionate supporters. Nobody wants to do that! Which is why, in times of political defeat, there is a bottomless appetite for prescriptions that reassure the defeated party members that they just need to be truer to themselves, more effective, more ruthless. And no ambitious politician wants to be the first to throw cold water on these hopes.

This is the psychological spot where many Democrats find themselves today. It is completely obvious that the party lost in 2024 because it overcommitted to a range of unpopular left-wing positions, some of which yielded disastrous policy results (like the Biden migration wave) while others merely persuaded constituencies that had voted Democratic in the past (like blue-collar Midwesterners or culturally conservative Latino men) that the party now cared more about climate change and various academic fixations than cheap energy and good-paying jobs.

What is interesting are the comments. Nearly all are variations of "You are wrong. Democrats should be hard left and support LGBTQ as well as Mamdani and his socialism".

Good... let them keep deluding themselves

There’s a Common Sense Party, and a party that can’t understand what’s between their own legs. The squishy middle had better decide which way to go.

They’ll keep going down rabbit holes until election pain makes them change direction.

They aren’t there yet.

This is what you get when you teach your followers to be stupid and that every stupid idea that comes into your head is the crises of the age. Take Trans: people ca. be born in the wrong body. Gender is not a fixed principle and can be changed at will. Failing to agree will result in dead kids. People who disagree are cruel fascists and their opposition constitutes violence as to which deadly force is a reasonable response. Having taught all this to your imbecile followers, how could you possible go back and say the opposite?

The Democrats’ “most passionate supporters” are the crazy ones that are the loudest, most violent, the biggest liars, and the most terrifying to the rest. If the Democrats don’t appease them they will rip the party to shreds. So they’re the true leaders.

Let’s consider the Democrats who’ve legitimately won in the last 50 years: Carter, Clinton, Obama (I can’t count Biden 2020 as it had too much funny business).

Carter and Clinton clearly won from the middle... They ran as “new” Democrats from the South... alleged moderates who talked a centrist game. They were not bomb-throwing liberals. They posed as good ol’ boys who quoted the Bible and were friendly to business.

Obama’s record was hard left but he was a charismatic, glib young guy whom the media fell in love with and presented in the most gushing, hagiographic manner in American history. He was the Messiah... “a light worker,” as one dead-serious San Francisco columnist called him, someone who was going to transform America and the world and lead everyone to a higher plane of being. It was insanity. It was delusion. But a lot of folks swallowed it. And they got lucky because the GOP was in trouble due to Bush 43’s disastrous elective wars and economic meltdown with crashes in the housing, mortgage and stock market. And McCain was a sucky candidate who inspired essentially no one outside of his own family.

When the Dems win again (and, sadly, they likely will), it will be because they either run a white male southern moderate or they get lucky and the stars align for a charismatic Marxist like they did in 2008.

“What is interesting are the comments. Nearly all are variations of “You are wrong. Democrats should be hard left and support LGBTQ as well as Mamdani and his socialism”.”

but no surprise considering the hard leftist cohort that are willing to pay the NYT for the right to comment there ... hopefully, the insane intransigence of the hard left translates into more losses at the ballot box ...

Besides the fact that she is unintelligent and lacks leadership skills, what seems to be the problem?

NYT article touts “Deciding to Win” as a blueprint for a Democrat comeback:

https://archive.ph/haLnv

“Executive Summary

Donald Trump and the Republican Party are damaging our economy and threatening our democracy. Their tariffs are raising prices, hurting businesses, and costing jobs. Their legislative agenda—which pays for tax cuts for the rich by cutting health care for the poor and massively increasing the national debt—hurts all Americans and risks our country’s future. Their continued attacks on the rule of law are unacceptable.”

some blueprint, huh? ... starts out with the first paragraph of the Executive Summary containing at least a dozen BS lies ... so no point in reading any further ... the “blueprint” STILL can’t handle the truth, and thankfully there’s obviously going to be nothing in it that’s gonna change the ill-fated direction of the Democrat Party ...

I thought all the comments were AI or NPC generated. They all had the same air of superiority and arrogant ignorance both are known for.

Kamala lost because she was as transparently non compos mentis as Pedo Joe..

she suffers from disorgaized schizophrenia which she self-medicates (and is probably on olanzapine or another atypical antipsychotic or two to boot

Look up “Hebephrenic schizophrenia.”

Key features:

“The prominent characteristics of the subtype were considered to be disorganized behavior and speech (see formal thought disorder), including loosened associations and schizophasia (”word salad”), and flat or inappropriate affect, and psychiatrists had to have ruled out any possible sign of catatonic schizophrenia. Delusions and hallucinations, as in paranoid schizophrenia, were not, although fleeting and fragmentary delusions and hallucinations are present. Behavioral disorganization, which may impair a sufferer’s ability to carry out daily activities such as showering or eating, was also included“

caught early, and in the right environment, such patients can do well in life. It may take them three tries to pass the bar, but higher degrees aren’t unusual (the film “A Beautiful Mind” portrays one such), but observing Kamala’s inappropriate laughter, discomfort in stressful situations (decompensation) to the point of affectations of accents, her trademark “word salad”, poor judgment (her past as - alleged - call girl to the stars, Mayor Willie whatsisname’s side piece), inflexibility with unscripted interviews and more, so much more.

But judging from the behavior of 99% of the dementiacrats in congress and higher office across the land, she must seem quite normal to them to the point nobody second guesses her actions.
