Today, Katty Kay called the project "a let-them-eat-cake moment" given that it was happening during a government shutdown in which some food welfare benefits are on hold.
Eugene Robinson took it an absurd step further, claiming:
"People in Washington don't seem to have a sense of how ridiculous and infuriating this is to everybody else in the country."
On behalf of tens of millions of people outside Washington, let me assure you, Gene: we're not infuriated, although many might be mildly amused by your hyperbole.

Eugene Robinson, who made the claim that everyone outside DC is “infuriated” by the ballroom project, is the same guy who claimed that Biden was “sharp as a tack.”
Ping to Liberal Media Criticism list.
Everyone outside of DC thinks you’re Rachel Maddow in drag, Joe.
No one ever complained about the Lawn chairs and tents on the Whitehouse Grounds as perhaps being a little beneath the richest and most powerful nation in the world?
I live outside DC and I am not infuriated at all. I have a care less tone, there are so MANY more important things to be looking at. Lets get the Government payrolls working, how about that.
Why does the AIDs patient think renovations that are not costing a dime is infuriating?
Was not Hussein’s basketball court (built with millions of OUR dollars in renovations) torn down in demolition IIRC?
MSNBC is owned by NBC which is a subsidiary of Comcast. Comcast contributed for the renovation as did other companies. The rest is paid for by DJT himself. Blithering idiot
Exactly. And Joe uses the ballroom as a diversion. Not that he’s the only one....
“Not youthful kings in battle seiz’d alive,
Not scornful virgins who their charms survive,
Not ardent lovers robb’d of all their bliss,
Not ancient ladies when refus’d a kiss,
Not tyrants fierce that unrepenting die,
Not Cynthia when her manteau’s pinn’d awry,
E’er felt such rage, resentment, and despair,
As thou, sad virgin! for thy ravish’d hair.”
All this anguish. Yet no complaints about ‘mean tweets.’
When I was a young supervisor I had a boss sit me down and explain, very clearly, that you should rarely use the words “Never”, “Everyone”, or “Always” in reports unless you could document the issue. Because while “Sally” might have wonderful attendance, she probably has come in late at some time.
Whenever I see a story or comment with these words I am “always” skeptical.
I am not infuriated with a new ball room. It is something that was needed. And it has been needed for a long time.
I will admit that it’s a little jarring to see parts of the “White House” torn down. But it was also jarring to see the back wall of my house torn down to expand it. In the end, I have a kitchen/grand room that is wonderful. Three months of construction were worth it. I trust that the new ballroom will be equally valuable.
Change is tough for some people. Its probably more difficult for stupid people.
Hyperbole much, Joe?
Hey - I have an idea!
Let’s all us Democrats fill our panties about the ballroom!!!
And we can give the money for the ballroom to crack addicts, tweakers and people who lay around all day doing nothing but squirting out new mouths to feed !!!
Somehow I missed the infuriation.
Morning schmo speaking for the American people again, his dead intern is not available for comment 😎
The Democrat Theater Kids need something new to Drama about.
Can someone set the record straight. Is any of the cost of the ballroom being paid for with taxpayer money?
Did they care when O’bozo built a basketball court?
King Donald is building his palace. /s
