Many years ago I killed a charging black bear in my back yard at my Alaska home that looked about the same size as this critter. I used a Galil semi-auto rifle in .308 Winchester loaded with 150 grain soft point bullets. It took four close range shots to stop it. That was more excitement than I ever hope to have again.
Some people are really not well people.
🤣
Apparently a peace-loving Islamic bruin isn't safe anywhere from you infidels.
Seriously though - so many shots from rifles just shows how iffy handguns are against bears no matter the caliber. But way better than nothing.
Apparently the bear thought that he had a scary looking rifle that is only meant to kill humans.
You’re correct. The first thing I noticed, at about 10 sec, was that the rifle did not have a magazine in place.
Excellent!!
A second story bear should have chosen a home that had one of those "There Are No Guns In This Home" yard signs.
I believe the politically correct term is “a bear of color.”
If it’s California it’s a Furry, not a bear...
While living in Houston, Tx, the sheriff told everyone: “If you have to shoot an intruder trying to enter your door, be sure and drag the corpse back across the threshold. No questions.”
Seriously, in the paper and everything.
“One blow with a 12 gauge might have done it !!”
Look up 458 SOCOM...it will flatten a much larger grizzly bear in a single shot the AR15 platform holds 10 or 13 in 30 or 40 shot standard mags. 500grain 45-70 solid bullets launched at 45-70 speeds if you hand load them or go subsonic with 700 gr soft cast lead over a gascheck. Either will smack down a bear or even bison. I own two uppers in that caliber one is a full 16” the other is a 12.5” both have flattened wild boar and black bear on foot on even terms in the field.
I also own a few 6.5 Grendel the 125gr Nosler partition is fire on anything short of grizzly or Kodak sized bears. Never recovered a round from anything shot with it even out of the 12.5” push two pins and any AR15 shoots the 6.5 Grendel out of the same mags the AR shoots the 7.62x39mm Russian out of again 2 pins and you can be throwing 150gr 30 cal partitions at what ever you want as well. The 6.5 has the ballistic trajectory and energy to be a true 300 meter weapon on any 300# or smaller animal from the 12.5” size the 16” adds 25 more meters of effect range. It’s the most balanced of the AR15 magwell limited rounds and absolutely destroys the 5’56 on energy at the muzzle and 300, plus trajectory and wind drift they are simply in different leagues. The 6.5 can shoot 140gr at velocities high enough that it’s more than double mass and double the BC of the 556 makes it a league above it.
This is the genius of the AR platform a single lower can host a dozen types of uppers.
Mine are in smallest to largest.
17HMR
22LR
22Mag
223/5.56 Nato
6.5 Grendel
300 Blackout
7.62x39mm
448 SOCOM
On pistol caliber, pistol framed AR15s
9 mm
45 ACP
10 MM auto
The 10mm in 11” pistol with 220 gr hardcast is also a boar / black bear killing machine for those areas where rifles are not allowed like What’s it’s as accurate as a rifle out to 250 meters and carries 500+ lb of energy to 200. Reddot over the frame double handed with a one point along as the third point of tension its riflelike point and shoot out too 200
Again push two pins swap uppers. 45 <> 10 mm or 9mm <> 40 cal. I never got the 40 cal because if you have a 10mm the 40 is silly.
Seven shots means 5.56 rounds not ideal for bear at all. Still better then hand to claw combat.
“where rifles are not allowed like What’s”
where rifles are not allowed like WMAs
2ND STORY ENTRY BY THE BEAR???????????
One blow with a 12 gauge might have done it !!
= = =
Don’t mess up the pelt.
The dude was way under-gunned. Should have went with the .375 H&H Magnum.
Is your Galil a brass smasher? Mine sure was. I traded it in for a milling machine.
Right!!!!
Yes, exactly!
