Boomer parents moving back in with their adult children isn’t a new thing. Money has been the primary reason, for the most part, especially since many elders failed to save for their retirement.
The story you’re about to read has a slightly different premise. A couple decided to sell their home and travel full-time, but their sudden change of plans led them to move in
The woman initially welcomed the idea as a show of love for her parents. However, things got heated when she refused a longer-term arrangement.
After an episode of emotional blackmail from her mother, the author asks the internet if she is out of line. Scroll down for the full story.......
The author isn’t alone in her distress about having her folks move in with her. According to statistics by Pew Research, 23% of Americans find living in a multigenerational household stressful.
These sentiments are more common among adult children, accounting for 31% of respondents.
Multigenerational households have their fair share of pros and cons. Investment advisor Triton Financial Group pointed out one upside: a built-in support system. Caregiving becomes less of a burden for aging parents and younger children.
Relatives also grow closer to each other, strengthening family bonds. However, the most significant benefits are in finances since shared expenses significantly reduce living costs.
On the other hand, the deterioration of relationships can be the biggest drawback of a multigenerational home. It can be particularly true among family members who are used to living apart. The sudden co-existence under one roof may create conflict, especially when there are differences in beliefs and opinions.
The author seemed to have this problem, particularly with her parents possibly invading her personal space. It did cause some conflict between her and her mother, which is always unfortunate.

Thailand has lots of very pretty ladyboys LOL
Be nice to your children as they select your nursing home.
This. My youngest son was about 12 years old. He and his older brothers spent the night lighting fireworks at to their grandparents home. The next morning I made the boys go out and clean the mess left.
As the three were matching out the door, I overheard my youngest grumble to his older brothers “I don’t think dad realizes I will probably be the one who chooses his nursing home ‘.
I am proud dad of kids that are both smart and funny.i pray that my affairs are such that my wife and I will not be a burden to our children.
That’s how depraved and spoiled they are.
Good question.
The Silent Generation is the counterculture generation, it wasn’t the children of the 60s who gave us the 60s.
The bigger problem is sibling agreement.
“””””As a boomer born in 1955 one thing I’ve noticed is that every one of my uncles served in the military but out of all the next generation (my cousins) only my brother and I served. And very few veterans in my subdivision.”””””
The boomers produced 10 million veterans, in my family my two real brothers and my step brother served, myself as well, all volunteers, 3 Army and one Navy, and all the boomer males of the household.
“And the Boomers love to rub everyone’s face in it.”
Yup. I relish it. No regrets about the life I lived during the early years, working two jobs, paying double mortgage payments, getting clothes at thrift shops, foregoing eating out.
Not our fault that the generations after us decided to be lay-abouts and spendthrifts. No reason they could’ve achieved as much as, or more than, us.
People don’t love us? I’m shattered - LOL!
LOL, with my mother it was CNN all day and night (LOUD) except for PBS for a few hours - then she’d quote both as if the words were from God himself!
No way I can live with someone who is beyond reason, facts and logic.
She thought Bill Clinton was the Greatest President Ever.
How is she supposed to "date" with her parents in the next room for 2+ years?

Let’s See it then.
My mom was the same way, CNN night and day. As the eldest son I took her to appointments, but God forbid if I had Rush on the radio in the car. She died before COVID, thankfully. She was nice in family situations, but not much at reminiscing.
This Gen X'er (my parents were in the Silent Generation) worked full time at a grocery warehouse pulling orders 5 days a week while going to college twice per week getting a BS in computer science, most of those years before the internet was a thing (meaning it required a truly nerd determination to achieve). All with a medical condition that could have let me sit on my butt collecting disability (the same medical condition that kept me from joining the military). My wife and I live on a budget, shop at thrift stores, rarely eat out, drove nothing but used cars until we became millionaires (like that means a lot nowadays with inflation LOL), paid off debts that each of us and our ex's ran up, and put aside a lot into retirement investment accounts.
We also paid for career training (either college or trade school) for all of the kids that did some career planning, asked people in that career to tell them what training was important (don't rely completely on school advisors) and pursued it. Three of our kids took us up on our offer and did well. Two of them budget and save and invest and are doing really well.
By the way, my parents taught a work ethic but not the budgeting and certainly not the investing. I had to learn that on my own (with my wife). It's pretty simple. My wife's retired and I'm 55 and plan to retire in 2 to 4 years.
Cool we are also right in the middle of that Boomer subset. Also never related to Boomers and the counterculture movement.
I built a small cabin, to move into myself. I find that my mother’s living arrangements were deteriorating so I moved her into it. I now live in my RV next to the cabin.
That’s the background. Now the foreground of the story... I hate it. Her attitudes and philosophies make it impossible to leave my daughter under her care for even 10 minutes.
She is no different than the woman who raised me. Every word from her mouth is a demand, every opinion is jaded and the manipulation disguised as guilt is unbearable.
But, to the credit of boomers - she raised me and put up with my sh!t for 18 years. I can certainly dismiss and accept the new arrangement.
The interesting thing is that those of their peers that do actually work hard are successful. It is not easy but it never was.
"Boomer Hate" has gotten to be a popular entertainment. The big advantage is that the Boomers are departing this vale at the rate of over 10,000 per day and will not be around to object to all the scapegoating.
Which is a really good way to distract people from who is tapping their wallets. When the Millennials, Gen-X, Gen-Z and whatever come around to grab all the loose Boomer stuff they will find that somebody else got there way before they did.
Now, as it ever was, the people making the biggest scores are the corporate executives and political "leaders" in their 40's and 50's. They are the people working for the Boomer figureheads who are nominally in charge. There are also some lesser minions making off with quite a pile of swag. See the progress of AOC and other members of the "Squad".
“those of their peers that do actually work hard are successful. It is not easy but it never was.”
Amen! Not easy. Never was. The rewards are worth it.
I had to tell him that the oldest Boomer would have been 4 in 1950 and the average wage was $3,000 a year.
He had no idea what a Boomer actually was and he had no idea what things actually cost or what wages were.
Like most of his generation he knew only what he had seen on his nitwit phone. That was invented by a Boomer. I didn't tell him the last part.
