Zelensky Signs Law Allowing Ukrainians Over 60 to Join Military in Limited Roles

Ukrainians aged 60 and older can now serve in non-combat roles thanks to new legislation. The elderly Ukrainians will need special approval and get medical clearance before enlisting.
The law was passed by the Ukrainian legislature earlier this month and signed by President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday, allowing people over the age of 60 to serve in limited roles until martial law in Ukraine is lifted.
While the current martial law authorization is set to lapse next month, Zelensky has requested that lawmakers extend it for an additional 90 days. Zelensky’s presidential term has already expired, and he has used martial law to remain in office.
Zelensky signed the law increasing the age limit as Ukraine continues to struggle with manpower in the war with Russia. Last year, Ukraine lowered its draft age from 27 to 25, but has resisted calls from the US to drop it to 18.
Ukrainian MP Anna Skorokhod explained earlier this month that her country was facing a severe manpower shortage, saying, “Our main problem is people. Nobody is giving us people.”
The MP said that even if President Donald Trump sent more weapons to Ukraine, the “war cannot last forever.”

Stop talking about that!
Have you not noticed, polls went negative on the war around 2023. Then, suddenly all the politicians no longer brag about how they voted to send more money and weapons to Ukraine.
In the beginning every politician was seen in front of weapons destined to Ukraine, shaking hands with Mr. Z and promising him billions more.
Now we arm and finance this war in silence or even secrecy.

LOL, that was a simple fact based post, there was no speculation, or fantasy, or even a mention of shortages or manpower needs, just a simple mention of enlistment and draft changes in the Russian military.
Your off-topic defensive post was revealing though, of your living in an imaginary world that shuts out even such simple information of Russian enlistments and their draft.

Allowing volunteers to enlist is not a military draft, that is really bizarre logic.

“”””That’s pathetic. Zelensky has been conscripting the old, disabled or otherwise unfit and giving them an hour or two of training before sending them to the front lines.””””
Then who are all those troops that President Trump has American troops training, and who are being trained by other NATO countries?

Just the opposite -- Russia in only using a fraction of its troops in Ukraine, holding the rest back in the event of a direct war with NATO. 97% of Russian forces are in or on the edges of Ukraine, it's why Prigozhin was able to do a cannonball run on Moscow. He made it further than the Russians did in Ukraine.

They've been grabbing men and boys off the streets for a few years - this kind of article is just psyops, "Oh we're doing well but we may need to change the age range." Someone else pointed out that the rich young males from influential families know whom to pay so they can go party at nightclubs every night without any fear of conscription.

I went back to look at the man more closely. Given he's running for his life, his stride is short and unsure, and he quickly falls on uneven ground. This person does seem older, stiff in the joints and without stamina to make it around a corner.
And again he looks stiff and rather weak, unsteady on his feet as he's dragged to the car, he almost has the strength of an older woman (not a slam - I'm saying he's quite limited for a male facing death - this is his best adrenalin response)
But this has been a complaint now for almost 2 years - they were sending barely trained conscripts, people who didn't know how to hold weapons, out to the front lines and there was a report, loudly denounced as "lies, all lies" which said the more experienced men on the front lines said these unwitting conscripts last no more than 2 hours.

I said it was heading towards 100%. That usually happens when you hit 95% of the population and still want the war to continue. This was a war to eliminate Ukrainians, so the land could be populated by third worlders. There was never any intent to have a Ukraine, as we know it, after the war. https://eadaily.com/en/news/2024/10/06/after-the-end-of-the-conflict-ukraine-may-be-populated-by-africans-and-afghans-paniotto |
Ukraine To Force 30,000 People Into Conscription Every Month

Ukraine is demanding that 30,000 people be conscripted to fight in the war every single month. Ukraine’s commander-in-chief, Aleksandr Syrsky, has said Kiev must mobilize 30,000 soldiers every month to sustain resistance against the Russian army. In an interview published on Wednesday by the Ukrainian outlet lb.ua, Syrsky claimed that Russia can mobilize up to 5 million trained and experienced troops, with a total potential force of 20 million. He emphasized this gap to underscore the urgency of Ukraine’s continued mobilization amid mounting battlefield pressure.

ransomnote: The woman in the passenger seat tries to hold on to him, to keep him from being pulled from the truck. She cries, yells, and when her man is finally pulled from the truck to the ground, she screams. By the time they get him out of the truck, the man with the hat has a fair amount of blood on his face- this victim fought back HARD.
At the first link I followed, there's a post of carefree young people dancing the night away in a club with text that explains that those who pay do not have to fear conscription. Just pay.

Desperate for money and men, Ukraine is using violent press gangs to snatch soldiers from the streets |
| Daily Mail ^ | Feb 29 | DAVID PATRIKARAKOS The war in Ukraine has always seemed a strange blend of the contemporary and the historic. During my visits to various fronts, I have watched soldiers livestream drone battles on flat screens, explain to me how AI is helping them better target the enemy, and I have spent time in trenches that wouldn’t look out of place in World War I. I was reminded of this when a Ukrainian friend recently told me about the growing problem of press gangs there. Not too long ago, he and some friends got off at Kyiv train station and were immediately swarmed by... | |

That is a totally different topic and not about the 60 year olds allowed to enlist, and you have no idea about those draft evaders, common arrests and draft evaders being arrested in public is a normal function, we publicly arrest people and we arrested draft dodgers in public during our 33 years of the draft, I would think that even Russia looks for guys evading the draft.

So does that mean that when they were dragging off men and women over sixty and under 15 sending them il equipped and un prepared to be slaughtered in battle, they were breaking the law? But now it’s legal?
