Gangs Urged to Defend Turf from ICE [semi-satire]
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 29 June 2025 | John Semmens

Concerned that "ICE enforcement efforts to arrest illegal immigrants are taking over our streets," Vice-Mayor Cynthia Gonzalez of Cudahy--a suburb of Los Angeles--urged members of two local gangs Florencia 13 and 18th Street "to defend our turf from these uninvited invaders who are terrorizing Latinos."

The Los Angeles Police Protective League, a union representing thousands of police officers, condemned the Vice-Mayor's remarks, saying "what Ms. Gonzalez urged and taunted these specific gangs to do in her social media post puts police officers and other law enforcement professionals at greater risk. These two gangs have murdered police officers. Her actions are deplorable and potentially illegal. She should resign and she should be prosecuted if what she called for broke the law."

Gonzalez denied she was attempting to solicit violence. "These two gangs have played prominent roles in our community for decades," she said. "They have a vested interest in what is going on. I didn't suggest that they hurt anyone. I merely thought that their presence at the locations where police were being assaulted and fires being started might help deter ICE from further brutalizing innocent immigrants."

Didn’t Cudahy used to be a meatpacking company that was turned into a Mexican colony in California?

Named for its founder, meat-packing baron Michael Cudahy, who purchased the land known as Rancho San Antonio in 1908 for development. Cudahy was incorporated in November 10, 1960 and situated in Southeast Los Angeles next to the LA River and 710 Freeway, Cudahy is both a small city and part of a large metropolis.

Why isn’t she in jail? How is what she did not illegal?

From Thursday:

LOS ANGELES - Cudahy Vice Mayor Cynthia Gonzalez has broken her silence and is refuting claims she was trying to incite violence against federal law enforcement after she received backlash over a now-deleted TikTok video in which she appears to call on street gangs to defend their streets from ICE agents.

Also...

After Cynthia Gonzalez, vice mayor of the small city of Cudahy, received nationwide attention and criticism for her now-deleted social media video, in which she appears to call for street gangs to intervene immigration raids, Gonzalez has broken her silence and refuted the claims that she was trying to incite violence against federal law enforcement.

Gonzalez’s attorney, Damian Martinez, said her client “called upon her local community to exercise their First Amendment rights to free speech and assembly to express their views on recent ICE enforcement actions” in the social media post.

“Dr. Gonzalez in no way encouraged anyone to engage in violence. Any suggestion that she advocated for violence is categorically false and without merit,” Martinez said on behalf of the vice mayor, who has an education doctorate degree from UCLA.

There has been no public sighting of Gonzalez since the video began circulating online. NBC Los Angeles has reached out to Gonzalez for an interview.

Honestly, I thought you made it up.

I don’t think so.

Law enforcement has the authority to investigate and prosecute if they believe the evidence warrants it. This would include city, state, and federal authorities.

“This was widely reported here about a week ago.”

That’s nearly as helpful as if you had replied: “potato”.

Yes, as helpful as posting week old news that has been already widely reported here.

Is that a felony? Should she be prosecuted? Seems to me that this elected official is calling for an insurrection. Is that true?

I’m a gang of one and I’ll defend my turf from the illegals that ICE missed.

The Vice-Mayor claims she was only urging them to peacefully protest. But why single out known gangsters to come to the riots? These are violent criminals who previously haven’t shown much public spirit.

The implied intent was to goad these criminals into taking offense that ICE was arresting other criminals on these gangs’ turf. This certainly appears to be asking for trouble, else why cue criminals to join what was already a volatile situation?

I think the Vice-Mayor’s best bet is to plead stupidity and hope to escape prosecution.
