Ukraine Has a ‘Secret Back Door’ Into NATO
National Security Journal ^ | 6/6/2025 | Andrew Latham

When the guns fall silent in Ukraine – and they will, sooner or later – Western officials will rush to declare a new era of European security. There will be speeches about victory, resilience, the defense of democracy. But beneath the rhetoric, something far more consequential will already be taking shape: the emergence of Ukraine as a de facto member of NATO, regardless of whether Article 5 ever formally applies.

Ukraine is going to get into NATO - one way or another. And that's not right.

Putin would beg to differ. It’s kind of a big deal with him.

Once the pervert is gone (soon), Ukraine won’t need NATO. They’ll be safe!

Ukraine was to weaken Russia by forcing Russia to use up its weaponries and make it easy pickings for Europe to go to war with it.

They could always merge with Poland or Hungary and get NATO membership that way.. All manner of games can be played were one so inclined.

Here’s way too much talk of Ukraine as an entity unto itself. It’s not. It’s about a hundred guys running the government.

If they were pro Russian, and I think that’s very probable as the eventual outcome, will this talk about NATO membership matter?

The parts of Ukraine getting into NATO are the parts that historically belonged to Poland, Hungary, Romania, the rest is going to be Russia.

There will be no Banderaistan...sorry Nazi-kinder.

Enough with the Russian paranoia. No one is thinking of invading Russia; too risky and too costly. Russia is weakening itself by engaging in an unnecessary war.

That means joining the EU first. The EU will never allow them into the EU due to their massive debt, they don’t need another basket case to drag them further into bankruptcy. Read up on the rules the EU has for entry- Ukraine doesn’t meet the requirements.

Better to carve up Ukraine and give Russia, Poland, Romania and Hungary their historic lands back. Merging what is left of Ukraine to those countries would be exactly what the West did to Yugoslavia ( by force) which seems to be working fine.

At some point the EU will have to decide if they want Ukraine or the US as a NATO partner. I am beginning to detest Ukraine, they are corrupt, duplicitous and I never want even one pair of US boots on the ground

You err if you think that the Ukrainian people are just a bunch of puppets. They support fighting to defend themselves and have a hight sense of national identity. They are not just misled Russians. This would not change if Zelensky were replaced.

Careful what you wish for…..If Putin were to be forced out, the next in line are Russian Neo Cons….Ukraine will be turned into one smoking hole.

Be thankful Vlad is the President of the Russian Federation, he has shown much restraint.

So much for respect for democracy. Sorry but the Ukrainians are a real people and Ukraine is a real country. They have shown that they will not submit to Russian domination again.

The real fantasy is not that Russia might lose the war. The real fantasy is that anyone in the West still believes in a path to Ukrainian victory. That moment passed long ago – somewhere between the collapse of the 2023 counteroffensive and the current artillery shortages. What we’re witnessing now is not a war of liberation or defense, but a war of inertia. Ukraine is fighting because it cannot stop. The West is funding it because it cannot admit failure. And Russia is advancing because it has no incentive not to. Russia is now advancing because the insanity of the west to admit defeat at the EU/NATO level has left Russia of no choice except to completely repatriate nearly all of Ukraine, with the exception of those lands taken from other countries at the end of WWII, which will probably revert back.

In 2021, one year before the invasion, Russia received an estimated total of 1,530 new, modernized, or otherwise refurbished tanks, supposedly 3.6 times the production in 2020.

From 1972-1990, the Soviets produced around 30,000 T-72s alone, in addition to around 7,000 T-80s and 12,000 T-64s, many of which ended up back in Ukraine.

This number excludes the insane amounts of T-54/55s in storage.

On October 7, 2024, the Indian Army marked a key milestone in modernizing its defense capabilities with the rollout of its first fully upgraded T-90 Bhishma Mk-3 tank. India’s T-90 modernization effort is part of a long-standing collaboration with Russia. Built under license and manufactured at the Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF) in Avadi near Chennai, T-90 Bhishma tanks are a vital component of India’s armored forces. Since the initial acquisition of 1,657 units, about 1,300 T-90s are currently in active service. The overhaul program, starting with the initial batches, aims to extend the lifespan of these tanks while enhancing India’s operational independence in their maintenance.

Measuring the total output of Russian tanks is a difficult task. The vast majority of UVZ’s outputs are modernized tanks of various models with newly produced T-90Ms. The UK Government itself estimates Russian production of this UVZ exceed’s 100 units a month.

The idea that Russia might still lose the war in Ukraine has become a kind of security blanket for Western elites – a comforting illusion clutched in think tanks, editorial pages, and official briefings long after the battlefield realities have changed.

The facts are in. Ukraine is exhausted. The West is demoralized. And Russia, despite its many internal challenges, is grinding toward its war aims with brutal consistency.

Membership in NATO without a fully committed US is not as meaningful
as it used to be.
NATO is devolving into a group of financially weak countries that have surrendered to third world immigrants who still purchase an amount of
natural gas from Russia that, if turned off, would cause a serious disruption in
Euro life.
NATO is a bunch of drunks leaning against each other to keep from falling.
