Russia Has Won the Ukraine War and ‘Defeated’ NATO
National Security Journal ^ | 6/6/2025 | Andrew Latham

The idea that Russia might still lose the war in Ukraine has become a kind of security blanket for Western elites – a comforting illusion clutched in think tanks, editorial pages, and official briefings long after the battlefield realities have changed. We are now well past the phase where optimism could be excused as ignorance. The facts are in. Ukraine is exhausted. The West is demoralized. And Russia, despite its many internal challenges, is grinding toward its war aims with brutal consistency.

How did Vietnam and Afghanistan win against such big adversaries?

That’s how Ukraine can win.

The problem is....they’re already lost. They really think they’re going to conquer those Russian occupied lands?

Russia has already lost. The manpower, military equipment, money and prestige lost cannot be replaced in a generation.

Ukraine has lost a generation as well.

The winner has been China.

It will be interesting to see how much of Siberia China takes in payment.

There are political careers staked to this war.

Failure looks bad.

Better throw more billions at it, burn through another 100,000 Ukrainian men, so we can kick the can down the road some more.

Yes,

China has benefited from this in every way.

They are the ONLY true winner in all of this.

Good. So now we can stop sending money to Ukraine.

What’s for breakfast?

As of Sept 2024 the US assessed the Russian military was larger and better than it was before the war started. Did Ukraine degrade the Russian military that severely over the last 9 months? According to the typical neocons Putin was out of moves in 2022….

You know how we could solve homelessness but we dont? Same thing. There is money and power to be gained in crisis. If everyone is happy and thriving people dont need authority figures to dictate their lives.

~~~
That, and Kyiv still exists. There still a nation on the map called Ukraine.
I try to stay out of these threads, but saying that “Russia won” with such a sense of finality is just over-the-top trolling. I guess I just fed the troll
Looks more like a standoff to me. It brings images of WWI without the trenches and the solution may be something like North and South Korea.
Since WWII, the definition of "winning a war" sure has changed.
Technically, the same difference - the west doesn’t want to WIN. Ends up costing more.
The corrupt MIC in the west wants an endless grinding conflict to supply and profit from. Governments are run by the MIC, but they don’t care either way, as ‘win’ or ‘lose’ - they get to decide who gets ‘reconstruction contracts’.
War is the perfect proof for the inherent sin nature of man - the most useless and wasteful activity possible, and we appear to revel in it.
I believe you’re correct about this.
I’ve noticed a subtle shift in reporting.
It’s no longer referred to as “Putin’s War”, now it’s called Russia’s war.
This is important because it’s true.
If Putin were removed from power, for whatever reason, the next Russian leader would continue the conflict.
Russian national pride is now firmly attached to this war, and if Putin were to walk away now, he’d be removed the next day.
Add to this the fact that the bottom is falling out of Ukraine cash flow, regardless of statements of support from European leaders, with Germany as the last man standing.
Plus, Europe has been weakened by mass immigration and is completely lacking in cohesion and national purpose.
I doubt that there is a single European country that could field an effective army to combat Russia.
They’ve been throwing money at this problem for years to no avail, but the well has run dry.
The recent drone attack by Ukraine, however clever, was a huge mistake, and won’t change the outcome.
The pillars of support that Zelensky has relied on have dropped out, and he’s left with very few options, other than to fight to the last man, like the Germans in 1945. A very unpleasant but very real prospect.
This war ended with the election last November of Donald Trump, and the only thing we don’t know is how many more people are going to die before the killing stops.
What again? How many times does this make?
Both Ukraine and Russia continue to completely lose this war - “completely collapse” - every other day going on now for years on end.
“The West is demoralized.”
BS. Most of us wanted nothing to do with this. I have been more ashamed of contributing our tax money to it. I feel in no way demoralized, and the warhawks in the US can kiss my lily white backside.
