In a highly offensive video that sent the internet ablaze, a 103-year-old World War II veteran, Ivan Gregger, honored as the grand marshal of a Memorial Day parade in Pasadena, California, was heckled by a callous and disrespectful member of the crowd.
For context, Memorial Day is dedicated to honoring members of the military who have died while serving out nation. The tradition involves ceremonies, parades, and visits to war memorials. Even in a deeply divided culture, most people agree that Memorial Day is a time for respectful and non-partisan actions, not blatant disrespect for veterans.
Reacting to the video, posted on May 27, 2025, one conservative mistook the heckler for a woman due to his long hair and said, “This lady spent Memorial Day berating Veterans all day including the Grand Marshall, a 103 year old hero. That’s her giving them the thumbs down. 🤬 A betrayal of the National Values she now has due to that hero. Shameful.”
Posting a video of the interaction and speculating as to the heckler’s alleged identity, one prominent conservative influencer said, “Man who heckled a WW2 veteran on Memorial Day is reported to be Theo Philpot of Pasadena. You want to explain yourself, Theo?”
In the comments under this post, conservatives were enraged by his shameful actions. One such comment said, “I wonder if dumb*ss Theo realizes he has the right to express his dumb*ss because of brave men and women who sacrificed for that very right.” Building on this point, another said, “My Dad was in WW2 and my brother was in Vietnam, and I served in the Navy in the eighties. If I was there and saw this I know I couldn’t contain myself and he’d be smacked so hard he’d wish for his mommy.”
Continuing the social media beatdown, many users wondered what could have compelled the man to act so shamefully. Harshly criticising the man, one comment noted, “Why go to the parade? So you can bully 90 year old men? Democrats are evil.” Adding their opinion, one account said, “How terrible. This kid can sit there like a complete idiot and hateful fool because of what this man, and others like him, did for his freedom. He should be shunned from society!”
Recognizing the complicated balance between freedom of speech and basic human decency, one commenter said, “That said, there can still be social consequences for abhorrent behavior, even if no legal actions can be taken. @Bubblebathgir is demonstrating those social consequences by shaming them online – and rightfully so. Public shaming can be used effectively to deter bad behavior.” Building on this point, another user said, “I live in America where those veterans fought for me to have the freedom to express myself, even in ways that people don’t like.”

Rounding out the comments, many users slammed the heckler for his shameful outbursts. One user said, “I have a hundred bucks that all say either one of those guys in the back seat could still kick the bejabbers out of this hairy cupcake. Anybody?” Continuing the backlash, one reply noted, “Spoiled little fatherless brats are ruining our country. POS never suffered a day in his sorry-*ss life! They’re lazy and unprincipled!”
Idiot.
There was a time, in my lifetime, where the crowd would tell the man to shut up, and when he didn’t, activated his shutting up for him. But it was also a time when manners was considered the outward appearance of virtue, so that people might be hypocritical but they kept their manners in public.
A beat down would have been the thing to do.
Quick and silencing. People in that crowd, especially recent veterans would know how.
Disgusting little hairy soy boy with a big fn mouth. Back to his job in fast food or more likely momma’s basement.
Only if you want to go to jail. These sissies are a protected class.
I’m thinking of people who lost a family member in World War II, including my own family. If this is the only way this fool can draw attention to himself, he’s pathetic.
“ Only if you want to go to jail. These sissies are a protected class.”
Some things are worth going to jail for. This was one of them.
I think many of us could find a way to give it to him and make it look like he started it. The crowd would be full of witnesses who would agree.
Glad I wasn’t there - way too old to spend the time in jail that would have resulted from his hospitalization.
I’m writing a World War novel. After the research I’ve done, I am astonished at the dedication and bravery of the men who served. What a testament to our history they are. I don’t have enough accolades.
What a testament to our history they are.

I agree but life goes on and changes abound.
What the future history will be is still to be
seen, good, bad or indifferent.
