It got a bad reputation because the Italian government modified them into carbines or somesuch, changing the optimum ammunition or twist rate. The unmolested versions have been used for target competition.

It’s like anything else. A little practice, sight it in, and it will put ‘em right in there. Anybody says it’s “junk”, OK - ask them to Volunteer to stand downrange 90 feet away and let a Marine take a few shots at them.

Let me know how that works out. LOL

The three teams in the “turkey shoot” triangulation as portrayed in the Oliver Stone film JFK.

Before citing Oliver Stone's film on the subject, you might find this website interesting:

www.jfk-online.com

It's worth looking at. There are multiple times throughout this movie that Oliver Stone simply made schit up to sell a film.

Which is unfortunate, considering the number of people in this country who get their information from video/television/film (and not from reading).

Sure, Jan. He also had a smirk on his face in the official mugshot. Looked pretty pleased with himself, he did. Also gave that defiant raised fist communist salute in a photo whilst being paraded in front of the press.

Are you sure? I’ve never seen him raising his fist in defiance at the Dallas police station.

I still believe Oswald did it and that he acted alone.

Bingo. The Warren Commission may not have gotten every last detail correct, but any errors were part of the two numbers to the right of the decimal point; in substance, its findings were correct.

A presidential assassination (or assassination attempt) has the same ingredients: a misfit, a weapon, and an opportunity.

But we really need a conspiracy theory.

Funny how the “crazy impossible “ things they investigated back then are so relevant now.

Why did Oswald leave the book depository immediately after the shooting? I believe there was likely a second gunman.

All I know for sure is that every word of the Warren Commission Report is a lie, including “and” and “the.”

Why did Oswald leave the book depository immediately after the shooting?

Probably because he was afraid of getting caught. The shooting took place right in front of the building (which I have visited), so it would have been thoroughly searched, and the weapon would have been found.

FWIW I found this on Gunzone.com.

2. How much did an M1 Garand cost for civilians after WW2?

Civilians could purchase an M1 Garand through the CMP for as little as $20 to $40, depending on the condition and configuration.

Oswald couldn’t/wasn’t become a member of the CMP. He defected to the Soviet Union, was a communist fag, remember?

Klein’s wanted at least double what the Carcano was for a Garand. He didn’t have a lot of money. He didn’t look too worried about it in any case, about the rifle itself, in that famous pic.

Anyhoo, it is Silly to get wrapped around the axle about the rifle.

It goes bang, hits what you aim at. Any questions? Jeeze Louise

Oswald was seen on the second floor having a coke. The two women never saw him pass them sitting on the staircase. Also the other day, the doctor in that attended JFK in the emergency room testified to Congress that Kennedy had two entrance wounds from the front. He stated he and a fellow doctor inserted a trach tube into the throat entrance wound. He stated JFK had a frontal wound at the hairline at the right temple. In essence Kennedy was struck from the front twice.

... a scoped weapon makes it much harder to acquire the target quickly.

A HAHAHAHA HA! It is to laugh. 😂

Actually that's a pretty accurate statement when it comes to the scope mounted on the Oswald Carcano.

Have you ever looked through an Ordnance Optics 4x18 scope?

It's a total POS. The glass is horrible, the cross hair reticle sucks and the FOV is so restricted that looking through one is like looking through a soda straw.

I actually bought one in the same stamped sheet metal offset mount off ebay just for the heck of it and I'm surprised Oswald was actually able to hit any moving target with the scope, much less the president of the United States.

On the other hand, the offset mount allowed the use of the iron sights, albeit with highly restricted field of view.

IMHO, It's a coin toss whether Oswald used the scope or the Carcano irons to shoot the President, but either option really sucked.

Did he shoot himself in the back or the head 14 times? What was arkancide called back then?

These are the requirements to buy a gun from CMP today.

Eligibility Requirements

A purchaser must be a U.S. citizen, over 18 years old, and legally eligible to purchase a firearm. They must provide a copy of a U.S. birth certificate, passport, proof of naturalization, or any official government that shows proof of citizenship. A U.S. military ID can be used if E5 or above.

You think the requirements were stricter in 1963? There is no "membership" to "join" CMP.
