It seems on the surface to be an odd thing for an innocent man to write in a prison journal. I wonder what it signifies.

Maybe so, but the rest of us can judge actions.

If those actions result in a crime being committed, then justice needs to be done.

Pell wanted the world to know his truth?

It may be referring to those who persecuted him.

Pell wanted the world to know his truth?

Perhaps he had already used these as models in some other portion of his prison diary; here are the responses of two blameless men:

“Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.”

"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do"

“Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.”

THe reason you were called a troll is that you jumped immediately to the conclusion that Pell was resentful/unforgiving of his persecutors; but the text sounded like he was declaring his innocence, not attacking them.

Where in my comments did I write that ?

Nowhere; mind reading fails yet again, passive voice notwithstanding.

One snippet talking about “state of mind” does not imply he failed to pray for his persecutors.

By contrasting the statements of Christ and of Stephen to the one quoted statement Pell had written you were putting Pell in a bad light, without sufficient evidence.

Again, you are misreading my comments, perhaps even confusing them with other comments. Mind reading does not work.

What do you intend to write about the posted article ?

Perhaps you could make your remarks clearer.

Do you assert that Pell was NOT (praying for his captors)?

I think his remarks are those of one unjustly accused — which bespeaks his innocence.

No

I think his remarks are those of one unjustly accused — which bespeaks his innocence.

Of course "only God can judge the human heart." That is very scriptural. Similarly, the spirit of God fills the human recipient with wisdom, understanding, and knowledge; so again very scriptural for "the extent of understanding."

However "& the level of freedom & consent" seem different to me. It's as if he is writing as a confessor that hears a penitent's sins and tries judge whether a sin was committed. It seems odd to me to call it a "short prayer." I confess I do not know what he meant by it.

Who or what do you think he was referring to ?

It sounds to me like he was feeling unjustly judged / accused. IIRC he had tangled with the Vatican’s Lavender Mafia and come out on the short end of the deal: and was smeared and accused.

It is most interesting that it deals with someone whose inner motives are being judged. As though in addition to whatever overt accusations were made against him, his motives were impugned.
