Hugo Monteiro, who became a U.S. citizen in 2020 after moving here legally from Brazil, was at the Cambridge District Court in Medford, Massachusetts, when ICE agents approached him, threw him in handcuffs, and shuffled him into a waiting SUV.
Hugo said:
I just came here to bring a client for a hearing. And when I came out, they took me, but again, I was not expecting this at all. I'm still shaking.
They were threatening me. But again, I was calm because I knew I didn't do anything wrong.
They were just, like, telling me I was under arrest, that I was in trouble. I was confused.
That sounds terrible, and it seems like it would fit right into the mainstream media's Trump bashing narrative.
But the reason it's not making those rounds is because of what happened next.
‘They pulled over in the parking lot. They explained to me they wanted to make sure they had the correct person,' he said. ‘I showed them my ID, my passport and my picture, and they confirmed that it was not me.'
Once the ICE agents saw he was a citizen, they immediately returned him to the courthouse and let him go.
Monteiro's response to the incident shows exactly why Trump got elected and still has great approval numbers.
‘Unfortunately, they called the wrong person, but I still support whatever they're doing,' Monteiro said. ‘I voted for Trump. There are a lot of bad people in this country, to be honest with you, don't deserve to be here.'
‘No hard feelings,' he added.
No leftist rant. No threatened lawsuits. Just a hearty handshake and a nod of understanding.
There are a lot of bad people in this country, [after all.]
Keep doing what you're doing, ICE!..................
That’s how a good citizen should respond. Glad he became a citizen.

Good response. Bad execution……..and there is plenty of that, unfortunately. Get the worst of them out first.
This was definitely a sharable article with other personal friends.
They disappeared him for 10 mins
“Bad execution……..and there is plenty of that, unfortunately. Get the worst of them out first.”
He was mistaken for another person. Do you have evidence the person they were after is not a criminal?
Of course not.
No… the net should be focused on the worst, but they shouldn’t be in the business of deciding, “oh, this one is nice, let’s wait”. If you catch one… deport.
Smart of him to carry his passport with him.
He also said "I just came here to bring a client for a hearing." I wonder if he's a lawyer. Maybe he normally carries his passport with him?
You never know when you may have to leave town....................in a hurry..................
That’s my kind of new US citizen!
Perhaps a card passport - easy and convenient enough.
Back in the 1980s, I was wrongly arrested in Dallas.
I was running (I was training for a 5K run) when a po!ice officer drove up and stopped me. I didn’t have any ID on me (no pockets in my running shorts) and I matched the description of someone who had just robbed a concenience store, which I had passed earlier on my run. They took me into custody, confirmed my identity, and the store manager confirmed it wasn’t me. They then apologized for the mistake, drove me back to where they had arrested me, and let me go.
It never occurred to me to sue them or even complain. I just hoped they caught the crook.
“Maybe he normally carries his passport with him?”
Virtually all of us should now.
Never used to. Didn’t have to.
But because of The Invasion, it’s now necessary.
A DL used to suffice, but after Gil Cedillo and the so-called California State legislature turned a CA drivers license into a fraud, that went away. Now you have to have Real ID, which is really not much different from an internal passport.
The whole idea of the US was that such would not be necessary. But because of the malfeasance of an entire generation, we now get to live in a police state.
Some people have to travel out of the country somewhat frequently, so they may keep their passport in their briefcase or laptop bag as a matter of routine. I think that’s what my daughter does. She might be given a week’s notice to go out of the country, so her passport stays in that bag.
I don’t care how many “bad people” there are here.
There are procedures for arresting people. And there should be consequences for arresting “the wrong person”. He’s a lot more forgiving than I would have been. I’ve been there, done that.
A “Good Citizen” should be rightfully pissed for being arrested unlawfully. It happens everyday. Multiple times a day. And just because you’re Latino doesn’t make it right.
Standing up for your Constitutional Rights can take courage.
The rest of you cowards can pound sand, cower to the authorities and lose your man card because, well, they have a badge and can do whatever they want.
“ card passport ”
I learned about that just a month ago! My sister and BIL are visiting this summer and we were thinking of going to Banff, Alberta. They have passport cards which are sufficient for car and ship travel to Canada.
My wife and I have regular passports and never needed anything else.
Great minds think alike. While reading the article, my mind immediately leaped to Born in East L.A. Lolololol!
If her bag gets stolen, she will have the joy of getting a replacement passport. I wouldn’t run that risk.
My son needed a replacement passport last fall for a trip to Peru. Actually it was a fairly easy process (except their San Francisco computer system went down the morning of his appointment there!).
So he flew to LA, went to the passport office there, got his replacement ,and continued to Peru. The airline even waived the normal, fees for changing flights at the last minute!
