William Shatner just tweeted the following:
“It’s called Presentism and it was used wreak havoc on history several years ago when statues were torn down, books were banned and things renamed to prove how progressive the world had become. Just listen to my opening monologue on Star Trek TOS on Paramount+. They intentionally garbled it on every episode because I say ‘where no man has gone before’ That’s Presentism at its finest hour.”

I have that and ALL of Mel’s movies on DVD; they are treasures!
Many thanks; much appreciated! :-)
From 1984:
Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book has been rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street and building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And that process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.
I LOVE ALL of his comedies and the films he made with or starred his wife. They ALL are still extremely good, never get stale, and I never tire of watching them.
Dankeschoen Obergruppenführer.
bttt
OK, at this moment I went to S1 E9: Miri and the intro was as it always been “Where no man has gone before.”
My field of study for 10 years after retirement was New York newspaper poetry from 1775-1830. I lived for a year reading microfilm from awakening to sleeping in a time when George Washington was still alive. The language of the time 200 years ago WAS difficult. I’ve ground my teeth many a time over handwriting and ambiguities.
Glad I have the Blu-rays.
There is a video showing a woman pondering where “Mr” and “Mrs” abrevia5ions came from, and all of a sudden it dawns on her “Mrs” is missing an apostrophe, and that it stands for “MISTER’S” Ie, man’s property 😆
Someone is having us on.
Glad I have the original series on DVD.
My kids give me a hard time about CDs and DVDs saying that you can stream everything, but that is NOT true, and not only is some stuff not available, it’s more often than not altered.
*Re-mastered* my foot. It’s an excuse to PC it and alter it while they’re at it.
I go to thrift stores for them. They’re plenty cheap there and usually old enough to be original.
Yup. People understood the context to mean *mankind* or *humans*.
I noticed the reruns have much better versions of the world’s that Enterprise orbited . In the beginning sequence Mars has details that the original science had not yet mapped . Sure enough if you follow the credits closely you will see listed the company that made these changes.
Is there not the slightest chance Shatner was trolling Maher by acting so astonished/bewildered at Harris’ loss?
That would change the entire meaning, since in the ST universe some of the aliens had been to where no Man had gone before.
LOL!
