William Shatner just tweeted the following:
“It’s called Presentism and it was used wreak havoc on history several years ago when statues were torn down, books were banned and things renamed to prove how progressive the world had become. Just listen to my opening monologue on Star Trek TOS on Paramount+. They intentionally garbled it on every episode because I say ‘where no man has gone before’ That’s Presentism at its finest hour.”

Disgusting, but not unexpected.
Amazed that they didn’t do this sooner.
Political correctness trumps everything else.
In this case, activist types are outraged that he said “to go where no man has gone before”. We are supposed to think that it is offensive to women, to suggest that men were going into space.
I wonder how many women are really offended that he said , “to boldly go where no man has gone before”. I know activist types with too much time on their hands are promoting mock outrage, but what about just ordinary women?
I love Shatner! Follow him on X. He’s active with fans most nights and very funny.
.
Just imagine if they eventually succeed. Anyone with the original Star Trek DVDs will be criminals for having the "incorrect" version.
I still have VHS tapes, besides the DVDs.
Will I be classified as a household with, spreading disinformation?
“to go where no man has gone before”.
Before political correctness took over, “man” in the context of that sentence meant men and women.
Personally, it bothers me. I guarantee you, my unconscious NEVER sees a woman when I hear the word “man.” It doesn’t matter that it’s the general noun instead of the one describing a particular sex. I know the difference between men and woman. A man will never be a woman. And the generic term man will never bring a woman to mind in my mind and I have great difficulty imagining ANYONE imagining a woman when they hear that word.
Where no one has gone before would have let me see myself projected in the image. After all, I grew up obsessed with Werner von Braun and sat outside for hours watching satellites pass by. Sputnik and the early astronauts - they were images to stay with you forever.
So I’m not an activist, but I am someone who was left out when some linguist decided that a man stood for men and women. Go back to Latin. Vir was mankind and homo was the generic male. Knew there was a reason I appreciated Latin.
And, by the way, I’m of the generation that WAS discriminated against. I was checked out on the Zeiss Planetarium but not allowed to give Zeiss lectures because I was a woman and in the dark women’s voices weren’t authoratative. And in my early movie scripts I was told that the computer expert HAD to be a man because women, again, weren’t authority figures, though the keypunch operator could be a woman.
There was a REASON women were activists once.
The might be Star Trek TNG?
I’ll have to pay more attention to ST to see if H&I has this change to TOS.
They’re gonna have trouble changing all those scenes with Shatner / Kirk “enjoying the view” (of the lovely ladies) on Star trek, TOS. Or, as Nichelle Nicholls once revealed, many of the actresses hiking up their little skirts to see how much they could get away with...
Faux: Bill Maher tries to explain to baffled William Shatner why Harris lost election
‘I don’t know why Democrats lost. I don’t understand [it],’ William Shatner said on Maher’s ‘Club Random’
Maybe because they tore down statutes, garble speech, use euphemisms to lie, etc. etc.
They changed it to ‘no one’ for Star Trek Next Generation.
LINCOLN: What a charming negress. Oh, forgive me, my dear. I know in my time some used that term as a description of property.
UHURA: But why should I object to that term, sir? You see, in our century we’ve learned not to fear words.
I'd give an opinion, but I am very far from ordinary.
I remember someone once observed that no feminist would go swimming at a beach where a warning sign of a “man eating shark” was posted. They know what the word “man” means.
How incredibly stupid.
Are they going to censor Neil Armstrong’s first words on the moon, too?
I’ve got a friend who picked up some audio tapes made by Glen Glenn sound at a yard sale in an LA suburb. There was a substantial part of one Star Trek episode that he subsequently identified. When he tried to see what they were worth, Paramount demanded their return. He did not comply.
We must be in an interlude.
You were a Hollywood script writer?
And *GASP* I have books! Perhaps all great old Sci-Fi books, films, and T.V. series will make us CRIMINALS. :-(
