CNN's Harry Enten is a data nerd, so he gets excited when he sees big moves in the numbers.
I suspect it hasn't been thrilling CNN when a lot of those numbers have been going in the direction of President Donald Trump and the Republicans.
Enten just dropped "one of the most shocking pieces of poll data I truthfully have seen this year, or maybe in any prior year." He then spoke about the "cares more about the needs of people like you" question, explaining how this question has always tended to favor the Democrats, looking at 2005, 2017, and even in 1994 (a big Republican year), by double digits. But not anymore.

"And now all of a sudden a tie?" Enten said, stunned. "All of a sudden, the Democrats, the party of the people, no more!" he exclaimed. He said he wasn't expecting it, particularly after the tariff actions.
Kate Bolduan asked where did it show that the Republicans were making the most gains?
Enten explained how the gains were with the working class, going from +7 for Democrats for those without a college degree in 2017 to now +9 for the Republicans.
So how might that impact the midterms and the fight for Congress? Bolduan asked.
Enten explained how in April 2017, the Democrats were up by +7. In Nov. 2024, however it was tied, and now in April, even with all the tariff furor, Democrats are only up +1. He said it still looks a lot more like the 2024 results than the 2017 results. Translation? That's not good news for Democrats.
Bolduan did not look happy at that news, although she agreed it was interesting "for once." That sounds like there's a little backstory about her reactions to his numbers.
But the answer for the movement of the numbers is simple. People see President Trump trying to fulfill promises to reform the economy and government. They voted for him and they're willing to give him some leeway to make things happen. They believe he does in fact care about them.
Meanwhile, all they see from the Democrats is "Hitler, Hitler, Hitler," negativity, and extremism from people who can't even define what a woman is. They don't see the Democrats focusing on the issues they care about.
Moreover, the working class gets the effort Trump is making with the tariffs and the effort to bring back manufacturing and other jobs that were lost overseas, and they appreciate it.
For example, you saw Joe Biden attack the fossil fuel industry, crushing jobs and energy independence. Now, you see Trump doing what he can to support coal because that helps provide energy security and the miners were just loving it.
There was some more poll data that also was good for Trump from the liberal Morning Consult poll, It showed that Trump had robust approval numbers in nearly all the swing states, except Wisconsin. He was above water by good numbers in 31 states, even in states like New Mexico that he lost to Kamala Harris. The poll was through March, so it's after people knew he'd be implementing tariffs, although before they took effect. But these are substantial.

Morning Consult numbers tend to run negative on Trump, so I would wonder if they were actually still higher.
Editor's Note: The Democrat Party has never been less popular as voters reject its globalist agenda.
But somehow the Dems always have a softer landing than they deserve.

i’m now convinced that it is impossible for the Dems to moderate ... the Dem party has been hollowed out of rank and file moderates who’ve fled the Party and registered as Independents/Unaffiliateds or Republicans ...
Also, the old-guard leadership, Obama and the Clintons, are now non-entities for all practical purposes, thus the Party is now rudderless at the highest level and there is no rank and file remaining that isn’t some part of the moonbattery ... this latter group is now filling the empty power vacuum vacated by the old guard leadership and the fleeing moderate rank and file ...

as far as i’m concerned, their one and only hope of moderate leadership had been John Fetterman, but the Dem moonbat cohort and their media cheerleaders have already rejected Fetterman as a leadership candidate ...
They have a softer landing than deserved because the Republicans refuse to exploit their advantages.
