How bad is it? In the state of Oregon, citizens will soon need to get a PERMIT (that state representatives are making it almost impossible to get!) just to purchase a firearm! If that's not enough, they are taking actions which-- according to Kevin Starrett--will likely put gun dealers OUT OF BUSINESS!
It started with OR Measure 114. Now they're CODIFYING it into "law" through HB 3075 (drastically increasing background check fees) and HB 3076 (driving the gun dealers out of business).
Do NOT miss this episode. OFF is the most feared pro-gun organization in the state, and for good reason--they are principled and tough! But the Republican legislature is CAVING to the anti-gunners.

In Illinois you need a permit which includes a background check just to be able to handle a gun in a gun store.
They probably don’t ask to see that if you buy a gun on the street.

An Illinois resident does not need a FOID to use a gun on a range or participate in a class if they are
1. under supervision of a FOID holder.
2. Eligible for a FOID — meaning not prohibited under law.
So i’m guessing it’s up to the Range whether they handle a weapon or not.
Most of the gun violence is being done by drug gangs to protect their market. The only ones who will have guns is the drug gangs. Armed robbery will increase for needed capital expense to stock up on illegal drugs. Those lawmakers taking guns away from the law abiding public are doing the bidding of the Drug Cartels.

Just an anecdotal story but I bought a gun last week. I filled out the ATF form on a laptop at the counter. The clerk turned the laptop around, punched a couple of keys, and started ringing up my purchase. I asked if he was going to wait for approval and he said, “Already got it”. It was basically instantaneous. The store also had kiosk where you could apply for a tax stamp for a suppressor. The device would even take and upload your fingerprints.
It was at a gun store where I wanted to look at a particular weapon and was asked for that gun handling permit.

I’m about to go to another range that also sells used stuff.
Should be interesting if they ask for the FOID, since everyone who works at the shop carries in the shop and that should put me under an eligible FOID card holder.
I took my uncle shooting, since i have an FOID and he didn’t, he was golden...he just had to sign a hold harmless waiver.
Now, when the RATs regain power (as they usually do), they'll know who you are, what you have and where to find you when the confiscations begin. You'll have to document that boat capsizing and loss of your firearms!

Well, yeah, I guess. Me and the other approximately 1.4 million people who bought guns last month. And then the 16.8 million who bought guns last year. They’re going to be very busy. They’re also unlikely to get much local help in Alabama.

There is another way:
The Second Amendment, like the rest of the Bill of Rights, applies to the federal government only. The idea that they apply to state and local governments is what has allowed the ACLU to turn this country into a sewer.
Really? There’s a lot of red-blooded conservatives in this state who didn’t vote for any of this garbage. We fight, scratch and claw back against the commies, but we’re greatly outnumbered by Dems, dummies and apathetic voters. This state is run by psychopaths in Salem and Portland. Red county residents don’t deserve this at all.
