There is extraneous opinion in there, BUT the key is where Walberg says if a person cannot get a $200 passport they cannot vote. It is the SAVE Act, sponsored by several Republicans, that requires a passport to vote. Women would have to provide proof of oorher names. This is insane, and like a poll tax. Even if the passport only costs $35, NO ONE should have to pay to

To post an opinion article and not state your opinion of it is odd.

Are you for or against what he is saying..otherwise, the thread really makes no sense.

I disagree. People who don’t pay taxes shouldn’t vote.

I disagree. Voting is a right that cannot be infringed once a person has proven their citizenship. I support ID, in order to vote, but an ID should be required.

That would be like saying that you have to have a passport to own a gun.

You should have a valid Government ID to vote — one that verifies you are a US citizen.

And, yeah, ideally you should have some skin-in-the-game too. Someone who is a perpetual client of Government sevices should not be voting. But this latter is just my 2 cents.

Those who think that poor people shouldn’t be allowed to vote have probably never been poor, and are almost arrogant beyond redemption.

The UK brought in voter ID laws but also provided a way to get free ID https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voting-and-elections/voter-id

The title and the article are misleading. Deliberately so. I am not familiar with the SAVE Act. IF it requires a passport only it’s stupid, and a waste of time. I doubt it is that. It is probably a voting ID act that allows passports too but accepts other forms like State/Federsl ID. Dims would ask only about the part that could be exclusionary due to cost. He is not wrong that if you cannot come up with ID you shouldn’t be able to vote. As always, haters twist things.

Walberg is my congressman, I did not vote for him. This POS voted for that huge CR last year, FISA for ten years, billions to the Ukes, Johnson, and so forth. He turned to a hardcore RINO, voting for the lesser of evils is over and has been for years. Pretty sure this type voting by constituents is mostly the reason MI lost both the state house and the state senate for the first time in decades.

I don’t know who Walhberg is, but I don’t support “democracy” either, at least how the word is thrown around today

I support limited government, strict limits on it, and clearly enumerated rights which shall never be infringed

Given enough time, money, public debt, and propaganda, all so-called democracies will eventually vote for tyranny

TimWalbergHeadshot.jpg

Timothy Lee Walberg (born April 12, 1951) is an American politician serving as a U.S. representative from Michigan since 2011, representing the state's 5th congressional district since 2023. A member of the Republican Party, he previously represented the 7th district from 2007 to 2009 and from 2011 to 2023. As the longest tenured member from Michigan.

Thanks Tim, but you might find yourself never elected again if that advice were made into law. Do you think poor people only vote for Democrats? Time for you to retire or quit saying stupid controversial things.

You should have either paid at least some taxes, or own property—AND have an ID and pass a simple civics test before you can vote.

States issue TSA compliant IDs for under $40. A passport card costs $99.

Add another 100 bucks and get a paper passport as a companion piece.
