Delta Air Lines has offered $30,000 to each passenger aboard Flight 4819, which crash-landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport on February 17, 2025. This gesture, totaling over $2.2 million, is provided “with no strings attached” and does not affect passengers’ rights to pursue legal action.

The flight, originating from Minneapolis, carried 76 passengers and four crew members. All individuals survived the incident, though 21 sustained injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

I think I would have my lawyer look at the offer.

We aren’t hearing about the pilots because Delta is trying to pay the people off before they sue them for a much larger amount. I imagine the trauma for these people on that flight was tremendous.

If anyone takes the paltry sum I imagine they will have to sign an NDA.

Delta hires a someone who might be a DEI hire that doesn’t know the basics of landing an airplane who crashes the airplane but thinks it can walk away with a few million in payouts?

That is because their lawyers told them they are screwed.

Especially, because there are videos of the people leaving the aircraft.
Which, IMHO the person who took that video was stupid to release so quickly. That video alone would be worth MILLIONS to Delta to NOT release.

Did any seat belt fail? Boeing and the airlines could make extra bucks by offering NASCAR safety cage seating class.

Delta offered that pittance before even releasing the identities of the pilots. Amazing.

I’d settle for $100,000...I’d *sue* for $10 million.

in a world where people get awarded 500 million simply because someone denies raping them. This seems low.

I have a friend who’s daughter is currently going to Emery Riddle college in Florida. This is one of the few colleges that trains you to be a commercial pilot. He stated yesterday that she will have about 200 hours when she graduates.

It is common for recent graduates like her to get hired by these smaller commercial airlines. Another man I know started with AA flying turbo props out of San Juan, PR to all the little islands in the Caribbean. Those little 1/2 hour to 2 hour flights landing on those short runways where the chickens are running around on the tarmack.

This Canadian airline that flipped upon landing would hire people after 500 hours.

$30k is lowball, but the only winners here are going to be the lawyers. A few have actual injuries, but the problem in any civil trial is what are the hard damages? Physiotherapy, lost work time, etc. Destroyed luggage and the airline will claim the international rules of baggage damage limits. But this is not permanent physical disability or death sorts of things. Sure pain and suffering....

“I imagine the trauma for these people on that flight was tremendous…”

That touchdown alone that collapsed the gear would have been one hell of a physical blow.

Physical trauma - you need medical evidence. Mental trauma you need psychiatric evidence. None of that is cheap for the plaintiff and if he is walking around and driving to work and going to his job it is a hard claim to make.

Just saying - this is not going to be a $10M per passenger case.

Don’t give them any ideas... “Our new ‘peace of mind’ seating is structurally reinforced, with custom oxygen deployment systems and advance personal security belts. Worth $1,000 more? The choice is yours to make!”

Lawsuits involving international flights are subject to a complex array of laws and regulations, including limits on the carrier’s liability.

Just hire better pilots. If it happens to be white males, I can live with it.

“No strings attached.”

Ha! Even in writing I wouldn’t give that any credence.
