PBS: Trump’s ‘Gulf of America’ Ban Attacks 'Nonpartisan' AP’s ‘Freedom of the Press’
NewsBusters ^ | February 18th, 2025 | Clay Waters

Tamara Keith: The Associated Press is at the core of the pool -- that is, the group of reporters who have been following the president around wherever the president goes, going back to FDR. And the White House, by going after AP for an editorial choice, is going directly at the First Amendment. It is going directly at the freedom of the press.

And it is not coincidental that they are going after AP. AP is extremely influential. They're also kind of straight down the line. They are not a partisan news outlet in any way.

You need to read the entire First Amendment to see that Trump is well within his rights to tell AP: FAFO.

"Freedom of the press" is a prohibition against the US Government and its sub-divisions to interfere with the publication of news content. In other words, what the Biden administration was doing with its attempts at censorship.

There is another clause in the First Amendment: "freedom of association." If the President wants to kill the AP's privilege to be present at news conferences or other events at the White House, it's his house. The Associated Press can pound sand.

I think the whole Gulf of America thing is a troll to get them distracted so he can accomplish things behind their backs while they are chasing the squirrel.

The press is trying to editorialize the news. Trump often uses gambits strategically. It is not helpful for reporters to try to check the president as if they were a player on the national stage.

The press are ink stained wretches trying to be relevant.

ROTFLOL! these people are absolutely delusional ...

but they are correct about one thing: AP is straight down the line alright, straight down the line for the hard left, 100% anti-MAGA, and 100% anti-U.S. ...

Wait a minute. I was told that freedom of speech does not mean freedom of reach. That shadow banning and reducing views does not violate freedom of speech.

Does Freedom of the Press now mean Freedom of Access to the President?

Their press freedom is intact. They can write and publish anything they please.

The “Press” mentioned in the second amendment is a printing machine and NOT a select group of who must be allowed special access. The first amendment applies to everyone. If an average Joe has no right into a “press breifing” neither does the “Associated Press”. We all have the equal right to use printing presses or their modern equivalent to say what we want. We do not have a right to special access to politicians.

These turdblossums are great at ignoring the people’s right to free speech and now their pissing in the wind about freedom of the press being infringed….

The headline, "Trump’s ‘Gulf of America’ Ban . . ." is something you would see from a junior copy editor. It is not a ban. It is a renaming. Everything President Trump does is not a ban. It is a do.

1. AP is NOT non-partisan. It claims to be, but it is lying.

2. No news organization has a right to be in the White House pressroom. It is a privilege.

3. PBS conveniently forgets that the Biden administration excluded a lot of conservative, leaning reporters from the White House pressroom. The “rules“ that they are constantly changing, only apply to our side of the political spectrum, never to theirs.

Trump and his people know this, and are calling all of these media organizations on their BS. The only thing that I am unhappy about at this point is that Trump only has three years and 49 weeks left in his presidency.

AP has freedom of the press. They do not have freedom of the Oval Office or AF1 when they choose.

No one is censoring what they choose to write.

Them calling attention to this acting as mistreated victims makes them even more unpopular.

No one gives a 💩about AP.
