The remarkable life story of Coast to Coast AM creator Art Bell may soon be coming to the silver screen by way of a biopic starring Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti. The percolating film project, set to be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the acclaimed creative collective Radio Silence, has reportedly already drawn interest from Amazon and Warner Bros. Credited with spearheading the movie are producers Sophie Cassidy and Jeff Katz, who is a longtime fan of the late paranormal radio legend.

I'd go see it. Art lived an incredible life. He was in the military in Vietnam.

“I’d go see it.”

I would as well. I used to enjoy listening to the show. Some interesting and intriguing topics and guests along with the ridiculous which was entertaining in its own way.

“He was great as John Adams.”

I have that set of DVDs and watch it about once a year. He was excellent.

Art bell coast to coast. Nothing else on that was as much fun after midnight on AM radio. The cryptics were fun but not when checking on sites in the middle of the night. However I did learn a lot on many topics…in the middle of the night…all alone…with only a flashlight…dundun dunnnn.
My other fun was driving at night in the Colorado mountains and pricking up LA news radio, talk radio from Dallas, news and weather from Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska through the signal skip.

Art was in many ways a founding father of the modern free speech movement. He often said that he didn’t agree with many of his guests but wanted to offer them a platform to tell their stories and air their views when nobody else in the media would.

Phil Hendrie, a talk show comic at KFI in Los Angeles did the best parody of Art Bell.

Art had one of the best Politic Talk Radio Shows going in the early 90’s. How many remember when “Charlie here” would call up (a frequent liberal caller) and off it’d go with debates!

Then, Ruby Ridge, and Waco, and it was burning up the airwaves - until Oklahoma City bombing happened. Clinton was blaming Talk Radio for it, and Art backed off politics. Really sad about that.

Phil Hendrie was/is a fantastic mimic and comical storyteller on his radio show. Most all of the fun AM terrestrial radio shows in my Bay Area have been ended by corporate decisions. I haven’t heard Phil live in over 15 years. I don’t know if he’s still active or not.
I’m not one to listen to my radio via the Internet.
I also miss hearing Dr.Laura.
She was a huge radio star for personal advice shows.
Suddenly, she was weeded out of circulation.
Gone.

I love Phil Hendrie. I’m a subscriber to his show and get all the classics. I especially love Coach Vernon Dozier he does.

Please, please include Cydonia in the show. Listening to Art Bell’s quest ‘experts’ talking, with absolute certitude, about the Martian Cydonia Pyramid Complex is as riveting as it is crazy. Reminds me often my mental health clients who could do stream-of-consciousness explanations that nothing at all to do with reality.

The guest that talked about Cydonia was Richard Hoagland, Science Advisor to CBS News during the Apollo program.
