Scoop: Trump planning to pardon Rod Blagojevich

President Donald Trump is expected to pardon former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, according to a person familiar with the plans.

Blagojevich served eight years in prison on charges stemming from his effort to sell Barack Obama's Senate seat after Obama won the 2008 presidential election, until Trump commuted his 14-year sentence in 2020.

Why it matters: Trump and Blagojevich have a relationship dating back to 2010, when the former governor appeared on the Trump-hosted "Celebrity Apprentice" after being impeached and removed from office.

Blagojevich, who was a Democrat while in office, supported Trump in the 2024 election and attended the Republican National Convention.

The former governor defended Trump after Trump was indicted in the New York hush money case and likened Trump's legal problems to his own.

"I love Trump more today than ever!" Blagojevich said on social media at the time. "When you've lived through it yourself you recognize when they do it to someone else."

But c’mon, what are the chances any of them are prosecuted, et alone convicted. I wish they were, but doesn’t seem likely.

I wouldn’t bet on any given person being prosecuted, but just maybe there could be a RICO prosecution somewhere in this?

I think the pardon will expunge the record for him, so it can’t be used against him later. I’m not sure, though.

FAUX NEWS reported that PDJT, is going to nominate him for Ambassador to Serbia.

Blago was able to gain the release of 3 US MIL personnel from Serbia, back in 1990 - 1991.

I’ve seen three or four interviews with Blagojevich. Not puff interviews; they asked him hard questions. And in those interviews, he makes a compelling case that his sentence was completely out of line with what he did. Every legal matter that has Obama’s hands on it - starting with Blagojevich and ending with Biden’s persecution of Trump - is a travesty of justice.

Trump originally commuted his sentence. Now I guess he wants to make it a pardon.

I watched that Tucker interview when it came out a couple months ago. It made me believe that Rod got screwed.
Either that, or he is a tremendously good liar/confidence man.
Not really sure which. I wanted to believe him though.

his article is a flat lie.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich did not try to sell Barak Obama's vacated Senate Seat - he objected to Barak Obama trying to sell his old Senate seat to Jesse Jackson jr for 2 million bucks without the common courtesy of giving Blagojevich his piece of the action.

The way it should have been done is to sell the seat to Jackson for 4 million and have Blagojevich and Obama split the take - minus finders fees and walking around money for the small fry.

U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald was listening in to the call via an FBI wire tap and he literally broke into the call to inform Obama that the FBI was tapping the phone and to tell Barack Obama to shut up before Obama committed a felony that could end his presidency before it even started just before he was sworn in as President.

U.S. Attorney Fitzgerald then prosecuted Rod Blagojevich for his side of the call, which was essentially saying ' "hey, a US Senate seat. That's a valuable thing and I'm not going to give it to Jesse Jackson Jr because you pressure me to" in order to cover for Obama and to silence Blagojevich up.

Jesse Jr later went to prison, in part because of the chain of events set in motion after he got caught trying to buy Obama's Senate seat with a 2 million dollar bribe.

Obama skated on this one free as a bird went on fundamentally change America and ultimately get paid hundreds of millions of dollars of retroactive bribe money after he left office

“llinois continues to be a lawless State under the rule of the Democrats.”

Both parties have been corrupted in Illinois for a long, long time.
