NEW ORLEANS, LA — Following a demoralizing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, news broke early Monday morning that the Kansas City Chiefs had moved quickly to fire their referees.
While the team's officials had performed well enough all season to contribute to a number of victories, the referees' inability to come through in the clutch when the team needed them the most led the Chiefs to believe a change needed to be made.
"They just weren't getting the job done, so we're making a change," said General Manager Brett Veach. "There are a lot of different positions on this team, and they all have a responsibility to do their jobs to help the team win. When one or more of the people in those positions don't perform up to expectations, it's tough to win. That's why we had no choice but to cut ties with our officiating crew. They had a good run for us, and we're sorry that it just didn't work out in the end. We wish them the best, and we'll be looking to add some new referees as we regroup for next season."
Head referee Ron Torbert expressed disappointment but understood the nature of the business. "When you don't perform, you end up on the chopping block," he said. "This is a results-driven game. We showed up strong all season long and into the playoffs, but we didn't help our team win last night. That's on us."
At publishing time, Chiefs scouts were said to already have their eyes on referees they may be interested in adding through free agency and the draft to come back strong next fall.
JK! LOL!
Whatever that means.
After that first call against the Eagles I was afraid the fix was in.
THE SCORE HAD TO BE TOO BIG TO RIG.
Good one.
Beat down. Jalen Carter is a beast.
Many of us were. I’m very happy to see the Chiefs finally get their up and comings. Hopefully TS will go into hiding now as well.
Rumor is that Patrick Maholmes got concussed early in the game. Might be right, Carter really lowered the boom on him. Saw a video I think on X, of Maholmes leaving locker room after game and going in a cart somewhere. He looked spaced out to me.
Another winner for the Bee.
Yes, something was out of kilter. I was thinking maybe a handful of Chiefs players had the flu or something. Not that they were shoo-ins, but they didn’t get past midfield until the third quarter! They clearly weren’t firing on all cylinders.
Eagles whipped them in the mouth, and they had nothing.
Gotta love The Bee !
I forget which FReeper really got mad about the way the Chiefs were getting calls in their favor.
But I told him that in the Bills/Chiefs game, the Bills just lost.
But WOW that first call was AWFUL and BIASED in the SB!!
I thought of him when I saw it and even I flipped out!!
I almost stopped watching...glad I didn’t.
I don’t hate the Chiefs.
I do hate cheating.
I do hate Taylor Swift.
I do hate that the NFL panders to “woke” culture and thinks they are REALLY going to find their biggest audience among 12 year old girls that follow a twit.
But I LOVE watching football. What a great sport.
Oh and I hate terrible halftime shows and never watch them.
That’s what remotes are for...well half time shows and woke commercials :)
I saw him get hit really hard toward the end of the game. Looked like major whiplash. I couldn’t believe he got up.
