The first victory in President Trump's battle to deport criminal aliens was achieved by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid in Boston. The focus was on apprehending persons who illegally entered the US who are also criminals--gang members, murder suspects, and those with prior convictions. Over 300 arrests were made. A later raid in New York City netted pedophiles, gang members, and a suspected terrorist. Over 500 arrests were made. A planned raid in Chicago was preceded by an ABC News Chicago broadcast offering illegal immigrants advice on how to evade detection and arrest by ICE agents.

Acting deputy attorney general, Emil Bove, warned that "state and local authorities must cooperate with the immigration crackdown. Any government officer who fails to cooperate may be arrested and prosecuted. The Constitution and the laws enacted by Congress under the authority granted it by the Constitution are the supreme law of the land. The statute that is being enforced by ICE is 1911. 8 U.S.C. 1325. This law makes it illegal for a foreigner to enter the US without proper permission, evade border checkpoints, flee ICE, or use fraudulent methods to obtain unwarranted permission."

In anticipation of Trump's move to deport criminal aliens after he won the 2024 presidential election, the Los Angeles City Council unanimously voted to prohibit any City resources--property, personnel or equipment-- from being used for any immigration enforcement effort. Council Member Nithya Raman, co-sponsor of the measure, explained, "these people came here for a better life and they ought to be left alone. I know some of them have committed crimes, but until they're convicted they have a right to be left alone."

Mayor Mike Johnson (D-Co) called the crackdown "a calamity. We are a nation of immigrants. The vast majority of us would never have even been born if the original inhabitants of America had been able to keep our ancestors from invading this land. How can we justify expelling its current invaders? Denver will be joining a lawsuit to overturn this inhumane policy."

Mayor Eric Adams (D-NYC) promised that "City officials will stand up for all New Yorkers--documented and undocumented--to make sure you all get the government services and benefits you deserve. But since we won't have President Biden to give the City the money it needs every one of you may have to go on half rations for the next four years."

The first time they came to the IS for a tour, the Trapp Family Singers (of Sound of Music fame) were almost not allowed entry because Maria slipped up: when asked when they were leaving, she said she hoped never. They had to spend extra time at Ellis Island while the authorities decided whether to allow them in or send them back.

The laws at that time were in place. People were sent back for a variety of reasons, among them, ill health.

There were no social services; immigrants were expected to support themselves upon arrival or to have sponsors who would help them and keep them off charity.

So yeah, we are a nation of immigrants: legal immigrants.

Instead of changing the laws, the Dems just open the borders. So twisted!
