During the National Prayer Service for President Donald Trump at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC, the Episcopal Bishop delivering her prayer called on Trump to show "mercy" to those "who are scared now," specifically those who identify as LGBTQ or are illegal immigrants. Her service sounded more like a missive for a dying nation than a celebration of a new leader.
The Right Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde called repeatedly for "unity" in America as Trump's term begins, though she seemed to be talking more to Trump directly than to any of his opponents. Budde said that it is "incumbent upon us to speak the truth" as she called for a "commitment to unity that incorporates diversity." Two of Trump's first executive orders eliminated diversity, equity and inclusion programs at the federal level and reversed Biden's gender orders, bringing biological reality and common sense back to policy on women, girls, and education.
"Let me make one final plea, Mr. President," Budde said, "Millions have put their trust in you and as you told the nation yesterday you have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now.
"There are gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican and independent families, some who fear for their lives," she went on. "And the people, the people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meatpacking plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals, they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors. They are faithful members of our churches and mosques, synagogues, wadara, and temples. I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away."
"And that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here," Budde went on. "Our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger, for we were all once strangers in this land. May God grant us the strength and courage to honor the dignity of every human being, to speak the truth to one another in love and ot walk humbly with one another and out God for the good of all people, for the good of all people in this nation and the world." She concluded with an Amen.
She added in the speech that there has been too much contempt in the country and that disagreements have become too harsh. Budde’s about page describes her as “an advocate and organizer in support of justice concerns, including racial equity, gun violence prevention, immigration reform, the full inclusion of LGBTQ+ persons, and the care of creation.”
Trump responded to the speech, asking the press, "What did you think?" and added that it was "not too exciting."
In June 2020, Budde previously said, "We need to replace President Trump," amid the George Floyd protests when she was asked what her message to Trump was. The Washington National Cathedral was used for the interfaith event and Budde was chosen as one of the religious figures who would preach to Trump as well as other political figures.
Tax that Church!
Not a valid clergy
1Tim 2:12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.
1Tim 3:1-7 1The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. 2Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, 5for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God ‘s church? 6He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. 7Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.
Whatever that is it’s impersonating a Bishop.
Didn’t the President just appoint a sodomite as Secretary of the Treasury?
The pervs have nothing to worry about.
Shove it freaks.
Preachers don’t preach the verse you mentioned about women not teaching men. But it really is in there. Ha.
They should be scared.
Come into the country illegally ahead of those who have applied properly, undergoing the necessary education and going through the intake processes. They streamed across the border unlawfully and sneaked into the country to take a job. Now I’m supposed to feel sorry for them because they just came here to work and they’re afraid they’ll be deported.
I do feel sorry for them yes. Sorry you have to go back and wait in line like everyone else.
Who selected her to speak? Bad choice.
Liberals think they have a right to spew their political crap regardless of whether or not it’s appropriate to the occasion. This phony bishop should be defrocked, but then again it’s the Episcopalians so they probably think she’s just swell.
he did, but I’m more concerned that said Treasury Secretary worked for Soros not too long ago...
Seems like the Bishop was a he/she perhaps!
They are going to wail and gnash their teeth in the DC Swamp.
That’s why Trump’s there and millions of Americans aren’t there...
Trump’s nicer to them than most Americans would be.
Some of these folks would be dirt napped by now had Trump not kept us from killing each other 4 years ago..
Drink in their tears
Trump’s our middle finger to these jackals
Exactly.
“ Trump to show “mercy”
Um. Wow. This is high level stupid. She’s an episcopal clergy member. In DC.
She doesn’t know trump isn’t God?
So in her mind its compassion for everyone but Trump.
You shall know them by their fruits. Hers/his/it’s are rotten.
