Oh No! New Yorker Worried that Sheriffs Will Comply With Federal Immigration Law

Imagine local sheriffs who actually comply with federal immigration law. What a concept.

Perhaps The New Yorker magazine is more comfortable with local police officials who defy such laws because their jurisdiction is in sanctuary cities. However, when faced with the reality that many sheriffs around the nation are more than willing to comply with federal law in order to protect their citizens, the New Yorker finds this problematic as you can see in their Thursday story by Jessica Pishko, "How Sheriffs Might Power Trump’s Deportation Machine."

Pishko finds it highly problematic that local sheriffs are willing to cooperate with the deportation policies of incoming President Donald Trump and his designated no-nonsense "Border Czar" Tom Homan.

Sheriff Coogan was supposed to be the Border Czar but he deferred to someone even tougher than him--- Tom Homan.

Only the leftists prefer illegal alien welfare suckers over the citizens whose money that is used to put them up in 5 star hotels.

In a perfect world, complying with the law would be illegal.

All domestic governments have to provide W-2 information to the IRS.

Sheriffs can be penalized for not providing a timely 1040.

Sheriffs can be punished for not providing alien criminal information to the USCIS in time.

Cogan didn’t ‘defer’. He was told to walk away by Trump once it was revealed about his attempts to lock up pastors for having church during Covid.

The left: says cops are lawless and need to be eliminated.

Also the left: Angry when cops are forced to follow the law after the left ordered them not to.

Coogan NOT Cogan.

This is why progressive totalitarians want to have a national police subject to big brother. Elected sheriffs are quite often motivated to protect citizens, unlike the ideal Stasi police force.

Reminds me of that period in history where Northern states were worried that State officials would comply with Constitutional law regarding escaped slaves.

They got a Supreme Court ruling saying they didn't have to enforce or comply with Federal law.

That decision was Prigg v Pennsylvania, and I think it was a very bad decision which caused a lot of subsequent issues with states refusing to obey Federal laws.

Yep. One of the tactics of a totalitarian regime is to bring in JBTs from areas far outside of the local population so that they don’t have the relational ties to the community.
