Yet another disturbing incident involving one of America’s federally elected officials happened today after Mike Johnson was elected House Speaker on Friday.
81-year-old Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) had just finished voting to help elect Johnson when disaster struck. Fox News revealed that she fell on the grand staircases on the GOP side of the Capitol.
PBS Newshour Correspondent Lisa Desjardins revealed Capitol Police soon swarmed the scene to attend to the elderly member of Congress.

I'm 80...I grab a rail any time one is available.
Johnson wins, then this.
The place has cameras. Who was in the vicinity?
Virginia Foxx

Thank you to everyone for your prayers – just a few small cuts and I’m doing just fine.
I’m a mountain woman, and we’re tougher than a $2 steak.
I swear 80% of you react like children. People fall down steps and at all ages. Don’t know anything about this congresswoman but apparently she was mobile enough to be taking the stairs herself.
A fall on the steps does not mean she’s a narcissist, or that we’re the Soviet Union, or that she had done anything wrong.
Good God! How about just, hope she’s ok.
I’m on the right side of 60 and I always use hands rails.
Excellent comments on this thread.
Aside from term limits on House Reps and Senators, there needs to be an upper age limit for running or serving. Considering that the senate is a 6 year position, there should be a cap on the age so that by the time they leave office, they are not in their 80’s.
For the very few who are still in good shape at that age, it might not seem *fair* but what the heck, the rest of us retire long before that. Get out of office and enjoy few years you have left.
I just turned 62 and I will retire very soon, no later than 65. Then I can focus on the family and hobbies I've not given full attention to for some 40 years. I'll let somebody younger take my place.
I get the power and such but I'm willing to give that all up so that I can have a couple decades or so of stress free living.
I’m seventy. I’m at my ideal weight. I’m retired and the landlord on seven properties. I can’t imagine working a job like hers. To do a good job, and really represent my state would be exhausting. I can’t imagine she’s doing a good job. Also, it’s important to bring up younger talent. This is one reason the Democrats have essentially died. The party has animated corpses instead of leaders.
“Needs to be a mandatory retirement age for politicians. Like pilots.”
What age due you suggest?
Average age for republicans in the House is 56.
I have no problem with it.
Trump is just 3 years younger. He’ll be older than Foxx is now, when he leaves office.
“After the first term.”
Trump would disagree ...
Jesus H Christ you people are judgmental!
“75 for all Federal jobs. How about start there.”
Non Sequitur
Cut their salary down to $55k/yr., no pensions, no Cadillac healthcare for life, serve 16yrs/max.
Also, make them live under every law that applies to American citizens, no Congressional exemptions
It’s supposed to be an honor to serve the country, not a get rich quick scheme.
Send them home to their regular jobs, or homeless encampment, whichever lifestyle they choose.
“Many of the comments here are unenlightened at best.”
Like these idiots have never slipped or stumbled themselves.
“75 for all Federal jobs. How about start there.”
If 75 is too old for a simple federal job it surely must be too old to lead a nation.
Quick! Botox, face lift, liposuction, and labiaplasty, while you can. Never let a crisis go to waste. The Pelosi plan.
“The time to move forward is now, “ per the White House.
They’re planning to overthrow the US.
