CNN Panel Erupts When Lawyer Reminds Them Democrats ‘Went After’ Trump After Panelist Urges Liz Cheney Pardon

Criminal defense attorney Arthur Aidala ignited a debate Thursday night when he reminded former Republican Rep. Joe Walsh of Illinois that Democrats pursued President-elect Donald Trump with multiple legal probes.

President Joe Biden awarded former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming the Presidential Citizens’ Medal for her role in a House committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol building. Walsh urged Biden to pardon Cheney in order to “protect” her from the incoming Trump administration, prompting Aidala to point out how the Biden administration targeted Trump.

“Joe Biden should try to pardon as many people as possible to protect from a guy who said, ‘I want to be an authoritarian,’” Walsh said, prompting Aidala to respond, “I know, but, congressman, his — the Democratic administration just went after Trump and his whole family. His whole family.”

“Wait, wait,” Walsh said, with CNN host Abby Phillip asking, “Hang on. What do you mean, the Democratic administration? What are you talking about?”

When panelist Cari Champion asked who had “gone after” Trump, the panel laughed.

“Last I looked, Joe Biden is a Democrat. Last I looked, the attorney general, Merrick Garland, is a Democrat,” Aidala responded. “They hired a special prosecutor who went after him in several jurisdictions. The Democratic Manhattan D.A. went after him. The Democratic attorney general of the state of New York went after him.”

Trump faced multiple legal battles, including efforts to throw him off the ballot for the presidential election, a criminal trial in Manhattan during which a Manhattan jury found Trump guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records on May 30.

Trump was also indicted by special counsel Jack Smith on charges based on allegations involving classified documents and efforts to contest the 2020 presidential election. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis also secured an indictment on state charges over Trump’s efforts to contest the results in Georgia in 2020.

“The Democrats went after Donald Trump and his entire family,” Aidala said, prompting former Hillary Clinton campaign aide Amanda Litman to say, “It was not President Joe Biden saying, ‘I’m going to put Donald Trump…’”

“It’s his administration. It’s his administration. And it’s his entire family,” Aidala responded. “Ivanka had to testify. Donald Jr. had to testify. Eric had to testify.”

CNN Panel Erupts When Lawyer Reminds Them Democrats ‘Went After’ Trump After Panelist Urges Liz Cheney Pardon

None of Joe Biden's pardons should be recognized. He's made 8,000 and more of them. They are now just garbage.

He is mentally unfit to serve as president, and that too should result in all his pardons being ignored.

I say let the justice department prosecute them anyway, and force them to go to court to try and enforce their pardons, and keep doing that until the courts are sick of dealing with 8,000 fake pardons and will finally make a decision that the pardons are no good.

If this 8,000 pardon nonsense is allowed to stand, Trump should pardon thousands of people for all past and future crimes after he takes office.

*FORCE* the stupid courts to recognize a rational limit on the pardon power of the presidency. Joe Biden has clearly crossed that line, and the Courts need to be forced into a corner where they realize it.

This ongoing debate is so stupid.

No person not convicted of a crime can be pardoned.

They can be granted immunity, but a pardon presupposes a criminal conviction.

I find nothing in federal code or the DOJ website which defines a pardon as a form of immunity absent a conviction.

Why wasn’t the fact that Biden himself complained that Merrick Garland failed to go after Trump quicker than he did? I mean that implicates Biden himself, as well as, others within his administration. End of discussion.

Nixon was pardoned by President Ford, and Nixon had not even been charged, let alone convicted.

I was but a child at the time.

The 17th/18th century practice of ‘mercy’ has been perverted to an inadequately defined legal term of ‘pardon,’ which has no basis as it was used by Ford for Nixon under U.S. law either then or now, insofar as I can ascertain.

Absent a deep dive into poorly outlined history, it appears the Founders intended ‘pardon’ to mean ‘mercy’ in Article II, Section II of USC, but it is not reflected in US code.

I defer back to my comment. As I read it today, Ford’s action should have been challenged.

If xiden signs another pardon document(s) ala ‘nixonesque’ for anyone the matter should be presented to SCOTUS. IMHO

“No person not convicted of a crime can be pardoned.”

Except that it already has happened.
