NEW YORK, NY โ The 2024 Major League Baseball season ended in historic fashion, as the New York Yankees successfully defeated the New York Yankees in the World Series.
Despite their best efforts, the Yankees were unable to overcome the Yankees, opening the door for the Yankees to pull out a victory over the Yankees in Game 5 in the Bronx.
"We were just too much for us tonight," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said following the loss. "We felt like we had a good game plan, we knew we were behind in the series and had an uphill battle, but we were confident we could win. Unfortunately, we weren't able to put up enough of a fight against us. But, hey, hats off to us. We're the toughest opponent we've faced all year. It's really difficult for us to win games against us."
Key strategies employed by the Yankees to defeat the Yankees included having Aaron Judge drop a routine fly ball, messing up a simple throw to third, and Gerrit Cole not covering first base as though he were playing for a AAA Little League team.
Though disappointed to come up short, Yankees players were quick to give credit to the team that defeated them. "You've got to hand it to us," said star New York slugger Aaron Judge. "We were clearly able to stop every attempt we made to win this series. It hurts. But, hey, you've just got to tip your cap to us for beating us out there on the field tonight. We'll just rest up during the offseason, come back next spring, and make another run at it. Hopefully, we don't run up against us in the playoffs next year."
At publishing time, baseball fans across the country were congratulating the Yankees on soundly defeating the Yankees.
No Kidding
Last time I saw anything like that was the 1919 World Series.
geez you’re old...
You were alive to see the 1919 World Series?
Ok, Ok, so I just watched “Eight Men Out”.
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
It got ugly. Aaron, my ten year old grandson can make that catch.
Brooklyn Dodgers take series in Five!................Film at eleven!.............
I’d like to know how many games this year The Yankees would have lost if Aaron Judge did not play/contribute. If it’s not significant, I’d try to trade him for 2-3 great pitchers.
The guy dropped a ball a little league player would have made and he simply did not hit when he needed to.
Astonishing Dodger fans are rioting after a win. Gotta wonder about the aftermath of a loss.
I have never seen a catcher interference call, but to have it happen in the same game as a balk call was just strange.
I thought after the Dodgers were down 5 that was it, game over..but Ive never seen a team straight up CHOKE like the Yankees did last night..they pretty much gave the Dodgers the game and said “We dont want it, you take it” watching that game, I hope that is how it is on election night, people think that Harris will win but at the end, Donald Trump wins, just like in 2016, he was the underdog, NO chance and BAM, he ends up winning
Eh its LA, when do idiots NOT riot and loot in this city its a lost cause
Shoeless Joe Jackson’s batting average during the 1919 World Series was .375, the highest on either team. Jackson’s World Series stats included: Three doubles, One home run, Six RBIs, and 10 hits after seven games. For some reason, I don’t think Joe was on the take, but he was banned from baseball.
But did he know about it? I think it was more that if he knew about it, he had a duty to inform the league.
Despite two errors, Cole is out of the inning without being scored upon if he covers first when Mookie dribbled a weak grounder to first. Hell, if the first baseman was playing in, he makes the play. Mookie’s single should have been E1.
Yep, I can see where Cole thought the 1B could handle it, but it's basic that he should have been running towards 1st.
